One of my favorite bloggers, Kathy, visited New York this weekend. When she invited me to join her and her two daughters for lunch, I leapt at the opportunity. It was the first time I'd ever met anyone in person after following their blog.
The experience was delightful. It confirmed everything good I surmised about Kathy and added real depth to our understanding of each other. Your mind takes in reams of valuable information when meeting someone in person that doesn't come through a computer-screen. I really liked the experience. And I really like Kathy. Her daughters, who are adults themselves, couldn't be more charming.
Judging from Kathy's post on our meeting, it seems our experiences were similar.
Here's a picture... Have you ever met another blogger in person?
That sounds like such a fun time! I haven't met-up with any bloggers yet, but would love too!

ReplyDeleteHey, I didn't realize it was a first for you, too! How cool. One thing I forgot to mention in my post is how unexpected it was to have such amazing BBQ in New York City. I thought only southerners knew how to do that. Good choice of restaurant!
ReplyDeleteYou look Great! I am hoping to meet a fellow blogger in the next couple of weeks. She is coming to Seattle.

Oh how amazing Ralph !!!
ReplyDeleteI did, I "ran" into one just a few weeks back, for Easter. It was unexpected - however we did not get time to chat :)
How awesome Ralph - I'm rather envious. There are internet buddies I've known for years who I'd love to meet. Glad it was a good experience.

How wonderful. I have met one other blogger, by chance on a train. It was brilliant to be able to share all those experiences face to face. And there is a blogger meet-up in my home town in June that I hope to go to.
ReplyDeleteAh, I'm glad you got do a meet-up at last! As you know, I've met up with bloggers (I'm even staying with a blogger friend at the moment) and it's always a good time. : )

I just started blogging but I would LOVE to meet some fellow bloggers some day! That's really exciting. I'm gad you had a fun time =) I know exactly what you mean about not truly KNOWING a person through the computer. I always try to imagine what people are like, but imagining doesn't quite to it justice. Blogger meetups must be so much fun!
ReplyDeletep.s. thanks for the really sweet comment you left me! It really made my day =)
ReplyDeleteI think that would be so cool to meet a blogger friend in person. I have not had the pleasure, but do hope to in the future.
ReplyDeleteAs to the name Silvergirl. It comes from the fact that my business is called Silver Needle Designs, but the silvergirl line in Bridge Over Troubled Water helped me think of it along with the line in Suddenly I See that says she is a silver pool of light.
Kind of a long way around to the name :)
Aww, I'm so glad that you got to meet! I can't say I'm surprised that you all had a great time together :)
ReplyDeleteI've met people that I got to "know" online first and have had good experiences with it, for the most part.
I think that because you read their words, see their photos - you develop a fairly good idea of a real person. Meeting them in the flesh is often kind of "natural".
Virgil's was a nice choice!
Looks like fun! Glad you all had a great time!
ReplyDeleteThat's great. You all look so happy. I hope that someday we can share a similar picture.
