Foreign Cultures

I have two people from Wales visiting me this week.

It's fun to hear their accents and learn about the history and culture of a foreign place.  It's like being in the middle of a travel documentary.

Have you ever had a foreigner visit your  home?  Did you enjoy it?

  1. Yes! And we had a wonderful time. An online friend of 2 years came to visit me from Germany just 2 weeks ago. We share a love of blues music and I took her to 3 shows during her week long visit and we went to our local zoo. We drove to the northern part of the state to have an overnight visit with another friend where we egged her on to try grits (lol) and went to the historical Kingsley Plantation. My friend teaches German & Art to our equivalent of high school children. She spoke English well which made the visit very easy. I hope to be able to make a visit to her one day. I'll put that on my "Bucket List", which is a term she learned while here.

  3. I have some friends from England and Ireland. I love to hear their different expressions and their accents are so cute to mee! They claim to love my American accent too but I don't believe them haha. I think it's funny how they consider my every day voice to be an "accent". I've never been out of the country before, but I dream of going ANYWHERE in Europe. Gorgeous picture. =)

  6. I love accents! I have a few friends in the USA but I haven't seen them for years, which is kind of sad.

  7. Ahhhhh - Isn't the Welsh accent too beautiful - My best friend from school, and her family moved from SA to Wales almost four years ago and her husband and eldest daughter came back to visit family and left to go home last night -I am still feeling sad - Anyway enjoy your Welsh visitors...Luv n Bubbles

  8. Well, just my brother with his different girlfriends (every time he visited, he brought a different one!).
They we from the US so there was no accent thrill :(

  9. Most of my friends are from the UK so the accent isn't particularly exciting when you live here. I do have a couple of English friends who live in Australia and have picked up an Ozzie twang. I think a blogger meet-up in the US would be fun. Then I could hear your accent, which would be great.

  10. Wales is not far from me and is lovely. I once ran a race to the top of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales.

  11. We've had people from other countries visit a couple of times. I have always been intrigued by different accents, both regional US accents and those of non-native English speakers. What intrigues me even more is when these "foreigners" speak better English than many Americans I know. :-)

  12. I love it. I have had students from all over the world live in my home, as they were attending English classes. Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Korea, Brazil, Spain, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Colombia ... the list goes on and on. It's a great experience for me and for my kids.

  13. I recently had friends from Taiwan stay with me. Having foreigners at home makes you look at your own culture from an outsider's perspective!

  14. I'm from Wales and my accent has stuck soooo long. It's ridiculous! You'd expect me to sound Canadian by now!
