Sometimes simple is good.
I bought this simple black dress at a thrift-store for $6. It appeals to me because of the material: the top is soft velvet and below the bodice is a silky wrap. They go beautifully together.
I paired the dress with a striped cardi to give it some graphic interest but, honestly, I prefer the dress by itself. Yes, it is plain but in an elegant way. I'd happily wear it to a fancy party, maybe with a diamond necklace. (We can dream, can't we?!)
The shoes are lace-up Oxford heels. I think they suit the dress.
Any opinions?
BTW, I'm lovin' doing more outfit-posts. They exercise my creativity and your responses teach me valuable tips. Also, your comments make me feel like I have friends who accept me -- the real me. I can't thank you enough for that. You guys rock!
Beautiful! I like it with the cardigan, especially now when the weather is still chilly. But I also agree that the dress is very pretty on it's own. You can also add a belt around the cardigan to show off your waist. A bright colour or black ;)
ReplyDeleteWe also love your outfit posts. It's great to see more pictures of you.
I think the dress would look phenomenal on it's own (the only problem with simple and black it that those qualities are hard to photograph, but in real life I think they'd be stunning). And I really, really realllly love the shoes!
ReplyDeleteI like both looks - it's really pretty on you. It's the perfect LBD!
ReplyDeleteGREAT dress! Honestly, when it comes to dressing, you have to go with your gut. I tend to veer to the less is more side of the road. While that may seem too cautious to some, for me, it keeps me feeling like "Serene" and not some goofball. Your outfit looks great either way....the sweater is a great addition, but I agree with you, the dress is almost better on it's own. Hugs! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteThis look is So Gorgeous! I Love Love your cardigan and necklace especially!
ReplyDeleteVery elegant! Both of them, but you're right, I too prefer it without the cardi...! Maybe I'd add colour (red belt? pasmina? silly handmade jewellery?), but that's just me! I like the simplicity of wearing it just with a diamond necklase! We loooove your outfits dear! Me approve!
ReplyDeleteI like your taste, you are good at putting together outfits. I like it with the cardi, it adds some interesting lines and contrast. And that style of cardi looks good on you!
ReplyDeleteI also agree that the dress is nice on its own, you may want to add some other kind of color pop.. ie. red necklace, or what about a red belt and red slingbacks? It is very chic no matter what!!
havent been by visiting as much as I would like.. have been really busy with work and training lately!! jeepers!! xoxJ
Love that striped cardigan. It adds a nice pop to the all black palette. I wanna see a close-up of your necklace. It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI own and love wearing a very similar pair of heels, they are cute and comfortable to wear all day! And nothing beats a LBD!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is divine ... I'd do strappy heels, but I do like the oxford heels.
ReplyDeleteYou've been a busy boy and I've been absent - nice to see you on the playground again.
Mwah and hugz
I really enjoy your outfit posts =) You have great taste in shoes and your clothes are beautiful. You pair them wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteI like it both ways, but the cardi really adds an elongating line that is super flattering on you! Excellent choice of necklace too...adds a lot of interest without being overpowering.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress on it's own, but together with that cardigan it simply blew me away. I love seeing you experiment with style, and the results are grow more appealing everyday. :)
ReplyDeleteBut I think for me the shoes steal the show, They are so perfect, something I would think of as a closet staple, where did you find them?
Also I wanted to let you know how grateful I am for your comment, I have been irregular again, but when I sneak an hour of responding to comments, yours are the one that stand out the most and bring a big smile to my face. Thank you.

Major shoe envy! I've been looking for a pair of lace up oxfords and yours are just so cute. The dress looks lovely and you would look smashing with a diamond necklace ;)
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks great with and without the wrap and the shoes are perfect with the dress.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is fantastic. I love the striped cardi. You do me and stripes. I can't get enough.
ReplyDeleteYour bearded lady comment on my blog made me spew iced coffee through my nose. I love you!

When I saw the whole ensemble with the cardigan, I thought, "How could it possibly look better without the cardigan? It looks so good already!"
ReplyDeleteThen I saw it without the cardigan--lovin' it. Wow!
<3Lovely
I think outfit posts are the best and more inspiring.

I adore this look. Simple. Classy. Elegant. Very Coco Chanel.. all black but with a statement necklace. It would definitely make a wonderful little ensemble for a dinner party or something else of that nature.
ReplyDeleteI like this !
ReplyDeleteI would wear it, the entire outfit. You look perfect -
I love all the pieces... especially those wicked shoes!
ReplyDeleteThe shorter necklace looks better w/o the cardigan. The lines get a bit confused... I'd love to see a longer necklace with it... to follow the long line of the sweater.
