Vintage Beauty

Back in the 1920s a British company named Brough Superior made beautiful vintage motorcycles. It's the bike T.E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia") rode and died on. The company went out-of-business in the 1930s. There are very few BR bikes still around; one was recently auctioned for half a million dollars.

I find the style of these bikes very appealing. An authentic BR is more expensive than I want to pay; plus, a 100-year old motorcycle is going to be mechanically unreliable. Fortunately I just discovered a small American company in Indiana (Janus) is producing a limited number of hand-made motorcycles. They look like BRs but possess more modern technology. Their new model is called the Halcyon. The Halcyon has a relatively small engine (450cc) but the bike, at only 350 lbs., benefits from its weight/power ratio and can hit 90 mph.

I don't NEED another motorcycle but there's something to be valued in romance. This bike tugs at my heart. Can you see its beauty?

  1. Dear friend, thanks for your comment on my latest post! I am sorry I am rarely commenting on blogs and therefore I missed some posts, but I do think about you! Love the vintage motorbike and I agree also with your previous post, in my mind I am still a 20 looking girl but time does pass by...our hearts are always young anyway, right? And I have to say you still look good! Sending you much love and hugs and hope that you decide to go on Instagram also so that it will be easier to interact :-D

  3. I love the vintage look: the saddlebags, the low lines, the open pipes and engine. I can see you on this!

Thanks so much for the letter - I got it at work yesterday. I pick up the Fluevog catalogues when I'm in the store (about every 2 months), as I love to drool over the upcoming styles and try to guess which pairs I'll end up with. I hope you are enjoying yours, hon!

  6. How great they are making a modern version of an iconic vintage bike! This bike is safer but has all the charm of the original. Thank you for sharing this find Ally. The last and only time I drove a motorcycle was when I was 14 or 15. It was a small motorcycle that belonged to my brother and I drove it around the island on private roads so it was safe. I remember I really liked but I never really got to ride a bike again. For most of life I either walked to work or took a bus. I rarely drive a car because I don't have much need for it. Maybe some time in the future I will get a nice bike, who knows?

    2. I was brought up around vintage motorcycles, so I've seen one or two of these. My Dad used to organise a local motorcycle show too. I can still remember the smell of oil :D
