Good Food

The very first fashion-blogger I started following, and later became friends with, is Diana of Smiles Go With Everything.  She's a lovely woman living in Florida.  I can never adequately re-pay Diana for her kindness when I was a clueless newbie.  Her warmth enticed me to travel deeper into fashion-blogs, an event huge in my personal history.

The reason I'm mentioning Diana is because, in addition to being stylish, she's smart about food.  Really smart.  I care about my nutrition and enjoy the wonderful array of flavors natures offers us.  Diana makes and brings her lunch to work (she's a school-librarian) in containers called "Bento Boxes."  The boxes let you bring several items in sealed units.  They're very useful.  Here's what they look like:

The best thing is what Diana stuffs in her boxes -- healthy, tasty food like salad, yogurt with berries, and raw veggies.  In the box above, she created a fascinating new salad by combining fried eggs with quinoa and red bell pepper.  Yumm!

If you're looking for lunch ideas, you can't do better than to peruse Diana's posts on the subject.  Her recipes, choices and combinations of food will make your mouth water.

  3. Das looks delicious! I pack Bentos for my boyfriend, so he has something to eat at work. Before I made that he never ate lunch at work because he was to lazy to make something.

  12. I left her a comment too, but I simply MUST try the fried egg-quinoa thing!! Always looking for new ways to use quinoa. There is a great recipe for Corn-Quinoa Chowder on vegetariantimes.com if you're interested. I've made it twice, and it is super duper tasty!! It's more like soup the way I make it, and even though it's hot, the corn and cilantro make it refreshing for summer too...it's good in any season.

I've been intrigued with Bentos for a while; not sure why I haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet. I bet it would make it a lot more conducive to eating healthier because you'd be planning your meals more rather than trying to throw lunch and snacks together on a whim and ending up with more processed stuff. I'm not anti-processed food, but I could always use more fresh stuff in my food choices.
