So of course it makes sense for my first foray into vintage to focus on this time period. Candidly, I'm more attracted to the styles of the time than to actual old clothes. It's hard to find real clothing from sixty years ago, especially sized for a giant, so I'm using new pieces with retro elements of the period's style.
What do you think? Have I captured a sense of the Fifties?
Oh my gosh, YES! You have captured the essence of the 50's perfectly! What a pretty dress!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I love the style from the 50s too & you look lovely in it!
ReplyDeleteYou're Julia Roberts at the garden party in "Pretty Woman"!
ReplyDeleteI saw the thumbnail photo before I started reading and thought "oh what a cute fifties dress!", so I think you nailed it. Those glasses are great too.

Fab-u-lous! I love 50s flair. I'm more of a 60s style personally, but who doesn't love the classic 50s. It brings up the epitome of femininity in my opinion. A time when women Got Dressed even if it was to cook and clean. Even a lady's house dress was better than some of what I see on the street today.
ReplyDeleteThe glasses are the perfect touch!
I need to take you by my local thrift store. All the best vintage pieces are in the large sections! They do tend to get snapped up pretty quickly in all sizes though.
Yes! Those cat-eye frames are to die for! You look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful powder blue polka dot dress! You look lovely. I just love that last photo of you in the cat eye glasses.
ReplyDeleteEek! I just squealed a little!! That's one of the prettiest dresses I think I've ever seen and so perfectly 50s. You're a non-creepy, perfectly beautiful Stepford wife. Love the bit of tulle peeking out at the bottom and the polkadots. And, of course, nice touch with those rockin' glasses! Love everything about this outfit.
ReplyDeleteWhat a charmingly pretty dress! Polka dots and halter necks go hand-in-hand with the fifties, and were a great place to start with your journey into mid-century vintage.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend,
♥ Jessica
yup, this is the 50s alright! the glasses are the perfect touch.
ReplyDelete[oomph.]
Such fresh and pretty polka dots in blue, and I adore that final photo in the cat's eye glasses. Great 50's look, Ally!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is fabulous. I love the color, the polka dots, the hem. But aren't you cold. It would look so cute with a white cardigan.
ReplyDeleteLove it, it's really 50's! And super love the glasses!! I cannot pull of 50's look, dunno why :( I look just stupid if I try :P

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh yes you captured it! I remember glasses like those. I had some similar ones and oh did I hate them at that time, but the are quintessentially 50's.
ReplyDeleteThe shoes are wonderful.
