This year's Mermaid Parade in Coney Island was bigger and better than ever. More paraders, more spectators, more costumes. The weather was perfect and the atmosphere was cheerful.
Love these photos! Thanks for sharing them. In Seattle we have a Fremont Solstice parade where about 80% of the parade is nude on bicycles. It's fantastically inspiring. Many of the naked bodies are painted with amazing murals and themes. It's really something to see. Then there are those crazy folk who take this parade a bit further by riding their bikes in many outlying neighborhoods completely nude without any body art at all. Some of them have been arrested. ;)
I actually took three photos of you and would love to send you the other two. The link to your profile isn't working and I can't find your e-mail address. Please write me at fhu@pipeline.com and I'll e-mail you the pictures.
Hi, I think you replied to my post on the board. I emailed you at the email you posted. Please email me my photos that you took, I believe you said you had three. THANK YOU!
This looks like such a good time. I want to do it!!! I could be a mermaid. If I had to throw candy, though, that might be an issue. I would most likely eat all of it.
My little nieces - ages 3 and 4 - are just fascinated with all things mermaid! Wonder what they'd think of this?!!! Looks a little like Gay Pride in LA!
Being a mermaid lover, I had always wanted to go to the parade and finally got to in 2010. It was a fabulous day that I will always remember. My honey bought us VIP seats in the judging stands, well worth the money both in comfort and in supporting the event. Thanks for the great pics!
Oh, my, I just love the spectacle of it all. And I love that people take their kids. Many folks would shy away from that, since there's quite a bit of near nudity. But I think it's very freeing to see so many people, with so many different body types, just letting loose and having fun!
i've never heard of this! fun!

DeleteGah, it would feel so free to walk down the street in one of these creative outfits. I think the octupus is my favorite of the bunch.
