One of my guilty pleasures is watching Joan Rivers' show "Fashion Police" (on E! Online on Fridays at 10pm). Part of the fun is watching Joan take snarky to an entirely new level; the other part is seeing interesting clothes.
One of the items talked about this week was a coat made from HUMAN HAIR. Hand-dyed human hair. The celebrity who wore it (actress China Chow) was attending a gay rights event where the rainbow coloring was appropriate.
Here's a photo. Is this coat cool or creepy?
Fashion Police is my guilty pleasure, too. Sometimes I feel bad that my kind of humor lines up with Joan's a lot but at least she says some of the stuff I can only think :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's creepy...and it's not even pretty.
I think my favorite comment by Joan on that episode was about Leann Rimes wearing the Stella McCartney dress that's been seen on four other women...don't know if you remember it but I almost spit what I was drinking out on the floor :)
Hope you are doing well!!!
If all that hair were belted, it wouldn't look so bad! I think it's cool in its own way.
ReplyDelete(Never seen the show--don't have TV!)
I love this weird thing! I think it's creepy AND cool. Or maybe it's cool because it's creepy. Not sure why it's not just as creepy to wear a human hair wig though.
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome. I don't see why it's any creepier than wearing fur. In fact, it could be considered more "ethical" because you can actually have humans consent to donating or selling their chopped locks. Although, yeah a belt could have helped her out a bit.
ReplyDeleteI still adored Chris March's human hair use in Project Runway. He got a lot of flack for it, but it was so well done. I could totally see myself wearing either of his two outfits.
i think it's pretty creepy... but also pretty cool :)
ReplyDeleteSigh, I miss fashion police (and by extension, the free cable that came with our last apartment). I like the look (even not belted), most likely because she now reminds me of a muppet. But it seems odd to use human hair as a dress - likely only to be worn once - when so any women (and men) are going through chemo, losing their hair, and are unable to afford human hair wigs.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch fashion police because I don't have cable. I think the coat is just plain creepy.
ReplyDeletei actually think it looks super cool but the fact that it's real hair (from anything) freaks me the fuck out. i dont wear animal fur and i definitely don't wear human hair. its just gross and dirty to me. but if i put that out of my head i love the look of it.
ReplyDeleteI actually really love Fashion Police as well! Joan Rivers is snarky, fun, and just her own individual personality. And the clothing commentary is usually hilarious as well. But as far as this dress goes... It's a little much. The colors and texture might be kind of color, but the fact that it's human hair does sort of give me the jitters. I don't think I could put it on, but if China Chow or some other brave soul could, they're much bravery than I am.

Gosh, we almost got to watch it on the same day (am thrilled to know we're not months behind). I found it totally creepy and outrageous. How many wig would have been able to be made from all that hair? I love E! Entertainment!
ReplyDeleteWould you do the floral trousers? Not for me, too much hips and too many wrinkles :-)
Hope you have a stunning week Ally - been missing you!! Hugz
Same here, Wendy. And, no, I don't have the body or style for the floral trousers.
DeleteIm all about crazy, crazy!
ReplyDeleteI love crazy fashion, but I don't think I will be able pull this. I have mixed feelings, I love the courage of her wearing it, but not sure if it works.....
I love the Fashion Police. I wish I could have cocktails with joan Rivers. I imagine it would be so much fun. My vote on the hair coat, creepy. Although I'm sure it must be more comfy than the hair sweaters that Opus Dei use :)
ReplyDeleteI think the coat is pretty much creepy than Joan Rivers is XD.

I agree with Megan. Sure, it's a little weird, but a lot better than wearing animal fur if you really think about it!
ReplyDeleteI've never watched this program. If I hadn't known this was human hair, I might have appreciated the funky quality...but couldn't the same effect be achieved without human hair?
ReplyDeleteI must plead guilty to watching and ENJOYING Joan Rivers on Fashion Police. She is truly evil sometimes....
ReplyDeleteI find this outfit awful. It takes me back to the holocaust where lamps where made from skin and soap with fat.
Definitely creepy. lol.
