Hermès

Anyone here have experience with Hermès?

I dove down a rabbit hole recently after reading a fascinating article in The New Yorker on this French company. I like that the company is two centuries old, still family-owned and cares deeply about quality. They honor their founding focus on horses with contemporary leather goods (the coveted Birkin bag, obviously) and show equestrian influence on fashion by, for example, incorporating leather harnesses into women's clothing. The company expanded into menswear in 1984 and has a hip new designer for that growing department. Who doesn't want to look French?

Have you ever seen Hermès scarves? Handbags? (Check out this article.)

Oh, and if you want to sound cool, pronounce Hermès the correct way: "air-mess".

  1. Non. 🙂

TBH, when I saw the title, I thought this might be about the god and their works, the Hermetica. That might be my issue, tho 😁

PS: nice tache and beret. Tu es très élégant!

  2. I know of the Birkin bags but mostly because they are highly sought after! I still remember the scene in the original Devil Wears Prada where Emily accidentally drops all the orange Hermes boxes of scarves very dramatically

    1. Very good! You get an A for fashion-knowledge. Also, when I think of this company -- especially its horse heritage and use of leather in women's clothing -- I'm reminded of you. You were the first person I saw who used leather/leather-like harnesses, etc. in your outfits. I'd love to see what you'd buy from Hermes if I gave you a $10,000 gift card. :)

  3. Of course I know Hermes! I don't own a single thing by them, but I do have a fake plastic Birkin that was produced for the 1994 World's Fair, that should count, ha ha.

    1. I'm sure the world has more fake Birkins than real ones.

  4. I do know Hermes because it was referenced in two of my favourite Anne Hathway movies - The Devil Wears Prada AND The Princess Diaries!
