Art enriches us. We simply have to open the door.
Today I took Robin to a live concert. We heard two classically-trained musicians play a wide range of musical genres on cello (Barbara) and piano (Phoebe). The duo call themselves Shiloh. Of course they have a professional website and YouTube channel.
Amusingly Barbara & Phoebe began with the theme to "Mission Impossible." Then they performed several rock songs (by Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Queen) before branching out into classic jazz ("Summertime"), film soundtracks and ethnic music ("Danny Boy"). It was a charming array of music, perfect for spending a leisurely Sunday afternoon.
"Music is the language of the spirit."
What a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon! xxx
ReplyDeleteThat sounds amazing! I love live music! We have a bunch of live acts lined up, in fact.
ReplyDeleteI love live music for the little magic moments that just don’t happen in the studio versions. Whether it’s the way an instrument is played slightly differently, a spontaneous extended solo, or the unique energy that comes from the artist interacting with the audience—there’s a sense of unpredictability and connection that makes live performances special. It’s those variations and human touches that bring the music to life in a whole new way. I shall have to check these out, thanks for sharing x
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about those moments. Sometimes, something happens that is so unique. For instance, once I was performing a flute recital and I was playing a piece by Ian Clarke called Zoom Tube which is a sort of Rhythm and blues piece for flute but using all sorts on interesting techniques like singing and playing (alla Ian Anderson in Jethro Tull), speaking into the flute, etc and at the end, the end piece of my flute inexplicably dropped off by accident but it totally hit the carpet in time with the last note. EVERYONE in the audience thought it was part of the piece and commented how clever it was! Luckily it was carpet and not solid wood or it'd be dented!
DeleteAbsolutely Lotte. I concur.
DeleteKezz, accept a fortunate accident as a win!
DeleteIt sounds a great concert Ally! I really like the MI theme! Danny Boy is a lovely folk tune! Did they play any Classical pieces also or was it all fusion?
ReplyDeleteYes they played some classical music. I need to learn more about that foundational genre. I like Ludwig van Beethoven so I just bought a boxed set (80 CDs!) of his entire oeuvre. I'm familiar with his orchestral symphonies (1-9) but not his many other works.
DeleteGood choice, Beethoven! We are playing his Second symphony in our concert next Saturday and I have played all his symphonies a few times and love them. Actually, in Singing Assembly yesterday, I taught my students a beautiful song called Bright Skies which is composed using the Shepherd song theme from the 5th movement of his Pastoral Symphony and the kids did SUCH a beautiful job singing it and it put everyone in a beautiful serene mood!
DeleteSounds like a lovely way to spend a Sunday.
