"Sono Lino"

Our greatest living artist is glassblower Lino Tagliapietra.

Now in his 90s Lino has made art since he was a young boy growing up in Murano, Italy (historic capital of the glass world). Lino's work is universally acclaimed, displayed in many museums, and possesses striking beauty. I'm fortunate to own two Lino artworks which are the pulsating heart of my burgeoning art collection.

A documentary about Lino just won an award at the Seattle International Film Festival. You can stream the movie (link below) but that costs a few bucks. I'll let you know when the film is available elsewhere for free.

  2. Oooh, does the film allow you to watch the glass blowing process? Would be fab to watch this!
That beautiful artwork with its rainbow hues and gravity-defying height is a wonder! I forget, is this one of your collection? Kezziex

    1. Yes! This is one of the works I own. It is FOUR FEET TALL. Incredibly impressive. Plus, there's an earlier documentary made about Lino and IT CONTAINS FOOTAGE of him making THIS PIECE! If you want to see footage of glass-blowing by Lino and others, go to the Corning Museum of Glass website which has many such videos. They have a full glass shop there where visiting artists demonstrate their skill in public exhibitions.

    2. I will do! Thanks for the tip!
Question: how do you display a piece that is 4feet tall and made of glass?! I'd be so worried to break it/it falling!

    3. How? VERY CAREFULLY! Much thought goes into displaying art as fragile as this. Also, I got insurance for it in my homeowner's policy which was actually cheap. Plus, NO BALL-PLAYING IN THE HOUSE!
