What's On Your Clothesline?

Last month I was chatting with my friend Charlotte (My Pixie Blog) and she said something that started me thinking. She mentioned she'd just bought a pretty new garment but couldn't wear it on her blog because it's a swimsuit. Her modesty was understandable. Most of us probably have items we don't display on our blogs for this reason. Only a brazen hussy like me would wear lingerie in public (here).

I chewed over this dilemma and finally found a solution. A clothesline! Like our grandmothers used for drying clothing after a wash. I believe we can "appropriate" old technology to meet a modern need. Even better, it's female technology that women have used for generations.

I really like this idea because it's something we can all do. I encourage you to duplicate the method with whatever you might want to show us. This idea, like my pink boxing gloves and mermaid tail projects, is a something we can share.

The results of my project are visually beautiful in a hypnotic way. Maybe it's just me but I love to look at feminine lingerie and clothes. They give me a warm feeling inside.

Are you interested in hanging your own clothesline? Try it on your blog!

  1. What a great idea! Our beautiful 'intimates' deserve the spotlight once in a while. This will work for air drying after laundering as well. I won't post them on my blog just because it doesn't go with my theme :) I just bought some beautiful underwear and it feels so nice to wear beautiful underthings. love your choices here. They're gorgeous! I just popped over from twitter. I'm a regular at Charlotte's blog too.

  2. My " intimates" aren't that pretty!
I laughed over the old fashionedness of clotheslines. I see this a lot with modern America. We in backward ( and sunny ) Australia consider it normal.
I remember after living in Canada for 3 yrs with the dryers, diving myself into my line dried washing on return to Australia, and taking a big sniff. Oh the heavenly scent of sundried garments!

  4. Another awesome post Ally ... Here in South Africa we mainly dry our clothes on a clothes line ... Our electricity is very expensive so tumble drying is the exception for most of us rather than the rule. And like Jazzy Jack I LOVE the smell of sundried laundry.

I most certainly would not show off my intimates as they are certainly not pretty - they are just functional. :(

  5. Cute idea 😊
Clothes lines are still regularly used in the UK.

I have a new suspender belt (do you call them garter belts in the USA?) and this is a perfect way of showing it off, as I am never posing on my blog in it!

    1. It's surprising how the rest of the world still uses clotheslines when, in America, they are considered archaic. I certainly understand their value and used my own a few years ago. American culture portrays them as signs of poverty or backwardness. I'd like to rescue them from that.

A suspender belt? Yes, please! Show us.

  6. This is such a cute and smart idea, you know! Italy is pretty famous for clothelines hanging from a balcony to another one in small streets, especially when it's pictured in movies from abroad...actually it's seen only in some places. I will be using a clotheline to show off something soon and of course credit you for the idea :) Hugs my friend!

  8. Great idea! I'd use this even for regular clothes, not just lingerie...I'm not happy with my body so I hardly ever post pictures of me wearing the things I love - this is a great way to show off your favorite outfits without having to post a photo of yourself.

  11. such a cute idea! i like it even better than actual modelling because when some body is shown I tend to get distracted by the body (such as with your legs Ally)
