Growing Through Mistakes

I have immense respect for women. One reason is their effort to look attractive. It takes skill and hard work to fashion an appealing look. Men have no idea how hard that is.

Learning how to select and wear women's clothing has been a journey for me, full of mistakes and poor choices. I was initially embarrassed by my errors but I've come to embrace them. In all areas of growth, mistakes can teach us, bad decisions can be fixed. Your feedback has explained to me what I did wrong, how I can improve and what to do better next time. The education has enabled me to make smarter choices in my appearance.

So I no longer worry about making a fool of myself. Mistakes are a price I'm willing to pay for growth.

Here's a glamorous gown I thrifted for a small sum, less than the cost of lunch. I gave it my best shot. Thoughts?

  1. That is classy!
There are no mistakes, just experiments. We've all been there (yeah, I remember a few more or less odd outfits from my teenage years...) Anyway, You should something that reflects who you are, right now. That may not be who you were yesterday, or who you will be tomorrow. Still, your look should only reflect your own ideas, not some 'mould' you're trying to fit into.

  2. Lovely dress! Perfect for a summer party, I can really picture this dress looking gorgeous in a nice garden.
We all have worn things we are not exactly proud of a few years later, but this is life! Learning always involves trial and error.

  4. I hear you Ally, I am too still learning from mistakes.

  5. I learn from my mistakes every day. I'm a firm believer that we never stop growing and learning. Every day is a new day to start again. And you look elegant and beautiful here!

  6. The guy side is easy and, for the most part I just do not care that much about it. If needed a suit will suffice. On the casual side a golf shirt goes just about anywhere.
If I go for female mode I can fret over everything and no matter how many items I try on or that I have in my closet I never feel as if I hit the right note. It is simply not easy dressing as a woman.
Women, to a large extent, do find a style and look that they find comfortable.

    1. PS: I do like the gown/dress and wish I had one in my closet. When I wear white or light colors I often have issues with makeup smudges. That is such a nice dress it would be sad to get it smeared with makeup.

    2. I agree that men's clothing is mostly boring. Women's clothing offers such fun possibilities.

  7. Oooh! I love this! And from your body language you do too.

I can see you looking much more comfortable in front of the camera and trying out some new poses. That is great!

I'm delighted to see you wearing a maxi dress. I knew you'd rock it.

Compliments on your natural makeup look too. It looks great with that wig!

    You GO girl!

  8. What a lovely gown - it really has that Egyptian goddess look about it. The draped top helps define your waist and give you that hourglass shape. Do you remember the metal snake bracelets and belts that were big in the 70s/80s? Wouldn't those look amazing with this?

I agree with Suzanne - great to see you trying new poses, and I love this make-up on you. Very well done, sweetheart!

  9. That's such a beautful and you look fabulous. You're radiating; I hope you felt that great all dolled up, too. You look very comfortable and ease.

Nothing is a mistake or a wrong in life, everything is a learning opportunity, to grow as human beings. Shine on, beautiful. ;)

  10. This gown is so Grecian goddess, I love it! And you just keep on keepin' on, my friend- we all make mistakes (whether we've been doing the ol' glam thing for our whole lives or just recently), and it's all about the journey!

  12. I love how the sheen of your hair picks up the gold.
I don't think I've seen this shoulder line on you before? It shows off your beautiful arm definition!
The softness of this dress is so feminine, and such a unique shape. A real standout.

    1. The match between my "hair" and the gown is why I selected this wig.

  13. I love this look on you. The gown is quite formal and elegant. I think it would work well for a dinner out to a nice restaurant or a wedding. The gold jewelry is lovely with it. I also believe in experimenting. Sometimes I put kooky things together because I simply like the items and I've stopped caring what people think. I used to worry about how I would be perceived. No more.

  15. This is a beautiful look for you, Ally, simply stunning. Very Grecian and I love a good flowy white dress :)

Lord knows we've all made mistakes over the years (HELLO THE 80S! LOL) but you know, that's the beauty of fashion. We learn. We grow. And sometimes even the worst looks come back to see another day ;)

XOXO and hope you have a lovely weekend!

  17. Oooh, HELLOO, Grecian Goddess!! Looking lovely Ally.
Oh definitely, dressing is so much harder for girls isn't it! Men have no idea!
Fashion mistakes are not mistakes- they are just a less agreeable outfit than one might like!

  18. Ooo love it. It actually reminds me a lot of my 'reception' dress from my wedding. It had that flows grecian look. I think in hindsight I liked it better than my wedding dress.

I'm always jealous of the ease of men's clothing. Most of it is made of soft, durable fabrics.

Nothing wrong with making a few mistakes. Clothing is one of the easiest things to make mistakes with because you can simply wear something else, try again. :)
