Opposites

It's surprising how dissimilar a day can be.  I woke up early this morning to drudge into Brooklyn for a court appearance.  Gina was not pleased.  Weather was lousy, traffic was horrendous, and potholes were so large they almost swallowed Gina whole.  Plus, as you can see, road-gunk was ubiquitous.  Gina looks like she went to war.

The trip home was a different story.  The sun came out and air warmed up.  I had spare time so I decided to frolic and detour.  I headed for local twisty roads I know from motorcycling.  I punched "Sport Mode" (which turns on Gina's turbocharger), cranked up Lou Reed's best ("Rock and Roll Animal") and ran through the gears at high rpm.  I felt like Niki Lauda in his prime.  Hitting Gina's red-line was the sign I was doing something right.

Do you ever have days of both drudgery and fun?

  1. Gina is AWESOME. I don't think I've ever seen a picture of her before until today :) I've only heard you mention her before.

And yes...I do have days like that. Sometimes it starts out rainy and gloomy, but the magnificent sunshine always seems to make everything better.

Have a wonderful rest of your day!

  2. So many days of drudgery and fun! Thank god I'm not the only one. Thank you for this post - your writing is so lovely - easy to read and very conversational. :)

  3. On a less grand scale I'd say every day is a combination of drudgery and fun. There is always a chore to do and I always try to do something I enjoy. Gina needs a little TLC now!

  4. oh yes!
a morning can be very nice, mood, weather and breakfast - and then something went wrong for the rest of the day. or the opposide. for example: yesterday i started making the pattern and sewing a new blouse. the first fitting was horrible, almost trowed the thing away. with an anger mood i worked on - and tadaah - in the evening i had a blouse that makes me really happy :-)
p.s.: poor gina! all the salt on her must make her feel itchy......

  5. Wow poor Gina!!!! Mind you, my Civic looks much the same courtesy of all the rain we've had here in the last few weeks.
I often have days of very mixed emotions. It's very easy to swing from happy to angry or sad. I'm so pleased that your day ended much better than it began.

  6. it's nice when a day that starts off not so nice, ends nice. most times mine starts off great and ends not so nice!

  7. *Resists urge to answer with "everyday!* :D

Yes, big time, mixed bag days like that are quite commonplace in my world. So long as a bit of good is squeezed in with the bad, the rougher moments are usually forgotten and the sunshine ultimately stands out when I look back on them years later. I hope that same is true for you too, dear Ally.

  8. Ahhh I love Gina! It's funny, the weather here in Denver is so similar, so I can absolutely relate! And I always curse myself when I wash the snow dirt off of Chloe (my white Xterra); without fail it snows again the next day!

  9. My days are usually a mix of both highs and lows. I do better when I focus my attention on what's going right and less on what I wish were different.

  10. Sometimes it makes me stop and ask 'Am I bipolar?' when my day changes so drastically that it can start off miserable and end up feeling great (or sometimes sadly vice versa). Good to know that it's just normal human emotion and perception and we can all have those kinds of days.

Funny what sunshine can do for your mood, too!
