I think Cara's suggestion is a great idea. At the least, the exercise is creative and fun. Maybe we'll even learn something.
My first effort is with casual-wear, imagining myself going to a baseball game. I'm a L.A. Dodgers fan, as you'll soon see. I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this -- the clothing, the style and any reactions you have to seeing me in both genders.
ADDENDUM: In early comments, some of you think my girl-self is wearing a yellow dress. Actually, I'm wearing shorts (yellow with white stripes) with a matching yellow top. The camera angle doesn't make that clear but I want you to know it because I think shorts are a smarter choice to wear when sitting on a ballpark bench.
Love how both shots of the shoes are composed the same! So glad you're loving the challenge!
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome! I want to think about them some more, but I thought I'd leave you my first impressions.
ReplyDelete1. You have a really nice smile.
2. Your stance in your boy clothes is bigger (except for the shoe poses)
3. You have a cool double shadow going and I think that I want it to mean something (some sort of metaphor).
Great post!
Thanks for your valuable input. And regarding the shadows... I use the same lighting all the time and, in the past, noticed the two shadows; I mentioned in a post that they represent my duality. So, with your literary mind, you saw the same metaphor! How exciting you perceived it the same way I do. :)
DeleteI like seeing you in all your realms here. I think you love classic things and clean lines. I also can see that you are a well groomed person, either way you live out the day. Of course, your eyes in all the pictures reveal sincerity.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joni. I'm glad that, through the window of my eyes, you can see inside my soul.
DeleteYou nailed it in both genders! Although I really prefer the yellow dress lol. That is an adorable outfit! And those glittery gold flats are fabulous. THAT is how I dress to ball games! Hahaha! Of course, you look handsome as ever in the Dodgers outfit, don't get me wrong! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, buddy. Honestly, it was easy to pick my male outfit because that's what I've actually worn to ballgames, but it took lots and lots of thought to come up with a female look. Normally when I dress in the abstract, my female clothes are more formal and not casual, so trying to come up with a casual look was hard. I'm pleased with how it came out -- my goal was to find something a woman like you would really wear to such an event -- so your comment makes me feel that I hit the target.
DeleteGreat pics! I prefer the lady style in these pics, very cute outfit and perfect hair and make-up. You've got great skin, too.
ReplyDeleteFunny, so do I!
DeleteGreat experiment Ally!
ReplyDeleteWhile you look different, you kinda dont ... it's still the same smile and the eyes say it all in both poses. It's facinating to see you like this.
It's awesome how your whole habitus changes due to what you wear. Not only the clothes, but your expression and aura.
ReplyDeleteWhen I dressed like a boy (I was a real tomboy til my 25's), I looked like a boy, and now I mostly dress like a girl and I guess I still look like a boy :)
x
What an interesting challenge! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI was a little surprised by the yellow dress; I would have thought if you really were going to a ballpark and presenting as female, your outfit would have had some kind of Dodger blue in it. Especially since you love finding themes and special outfits when you are dressing female, it would be a very "you" thing to do, if that makes sense.
OTOH, that's always the toughest part of going to sporting events as a female -- finding something in the right colors that isn't just an oversized t-shirt. I imagine it is probably even tougher in your size. It is in mine, too! :)
Good feedback. At first, I thought about wearing an oversized t-shirt -- but nobody makes clothes THAT large! Regarding color, I thought that as a woman I'd want to be pretty and not limited to the team's color; yellow is bright and sunny, and a hue no man would wear.
DeleteI like your Vans!!! :) Being a tomboy, I'm partial to the Dodgers t-shirt w/ black jeans... But I really like those yellow shorts! Plus, you pull off the bright colors nicely! I love that shade of yellow but can't wear it against my skin.
ReplyDeleteFun experiment! I think you look simple and casually sporty in both with primary colors being the main pop. Neat idea!

I love this post! I think you definitely hit the nail for both genders - your male look reminds me of how my husband would probably dress - very simple in t-shirt and jeans. Your female look is definitely more like me - I'd have to do something fun and cute to go to a game!! I think I'd maybe still wear a Twins t-shirt though...yes, I'm a Twins fan, can't not be living here in MN!
ReplyDeleteGosh, men have it so easy! T-shirt, jeans, shoes. Done. Women have to do makeup and accessories too! I like both outfits, thought I feel like the girl-version is a bit less casual. But hey, that happens a lot in real life, too. I know I'm always more dressed up than my BF when we go out :)
ReplyDeleteThe only way I could dress more casual as a woman is if I had physical parts I don't have. I've observed genetic gals relaxing in just tiny camis; that wouldn't look good on me.
DeleteLove both outfits but i must say the yellow is stunning on you!! Maybe a yellow polo would be a good warm weather addition to your guy wardrobe??
ReplyDeleteNice idea. I adore this shade of yellow. So sunny.
DeleteYellow is your color! Not so many can pull that shade of yellow of, but its stunning.
ReplyDeleteI really love both, I love that the yellow is a simple outfit, but the bracelets & shoes glam it up a bit. I love the blue too! It brightens up the look and THOSE SNEAKERS. They are too cool!
ReplyDeleteI love my Vans. I once wore them into a fancy restaurant and the waitress gushed, "You're the coolest guy here!" To a man my age, that's sweet nectar. :)
DeleteWhat a great idea. I have to pipe up and say I love your men's look here. I'm a Vans addict from long ago, so I really love your sneakers. I used to buy the little boy's sizes before they started making girl versions more popular.
ReplyDeleteAlso love the bright yellow. It says "here I am" even though your poses are a bit shyer as a lady.
Well, I love the yellow short/top combo (I am glad you clarified it wasn't a dress) as it is very spring and pretty chic. Not sure if I would pick it for a game more like a sunday outing or picnic... But that is just me....
ReplyDeleteBut I think it is more suited for a sunday picnic or outing.
Now, I am not a sports fan by any means but I envisioned something like cuffed boyfriend jeans, a loose baseball jersey with a tight tank peeking under and pointy toe stiletto heels and a baseball cap. Kind of a Sarah Jessica Parker look in Sex in the City.
Probably not practical though with the high heels. I guess may be you could add converse type sneakers to your yellow outfit and a cap instead of the dressy accessories. Not sure.
D.
Fun ideas. Thanks!
DeleteI just ready our comment on my blog. You are so sweet. I do not deserve the compliments I feel. You always make me feel great though. If only I had my ideas now when I had the body when I was younger. :)
DeleteI think you are a stunner however you dress!!!
ReplyDeleteLynn, you are always so sweet. *kiss*
DeleteI agree that wearing shorts or pants to the ballpark is a must. You don't want to be wearing a skirt when a strong breeze comes by, plus you'll be walking up all those stairs and a skirt isn't practical. I think you look really pretty in yellow! Yellow is one of my favorite colors.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing in yellow! That is the cutest outfit. Love those gold flats too. Although you look great in the blue and black...I gotta go with the sunshine yellow look as my fave.
ReplyDeleteGlitz and glam (I do believe we have the same sparkly flats from Payless) and rugged and sporty, I like both looks but think your personality really shines through in the feminine yellow.
ReplyDeleteWe do have the same shoes. Which isn't a surprise -- I take lots of fashion tips from you. You're one of my main mentors!
Deleteawesome post! It's the first time I see both of your sides here but let me tell what - whatever you wear you are perfect
ReplyDeleteI love your men outfit so much - blue is my favourite colour! very nice skirt on you, dear
Such an interesting style challenge to take on and I love it, I also agree you have a wonderful smile. Have a great weekend. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, pal. You, too.
DeleteBoth of you have very nice style. I like that yellow dress. Have a nice weekend.

you look very a league of their own...love the yellow on you Xo Megan, www.TfDiaries.com
ReplyDeleteVery cool style challenge! Yellow is a great colour on you (not something that many can say - it's a tricky hue to pull off). Have you ever tried styling the same garments (and accessories) for both a male and female ensemble?
ReplyDelete♥ Jessica
Nope. Nice idea.
Deletei love those tennis shoes and shorts =D. I was obsessed with skirts last year, but this year may be the year for shorts.
ReplyDeleteYou know The Absent-Minded Professor loves that tee. I think you are a very handsome man, perfectly dressed for a ballgame. Your female version of game-day dressing is super fabulous, bold and bright just like you are. I just aim to wear something that hot dog chili, mustard, and peanut shells won't look too bad against ;P
ReplyDeleteI will have you in yellow if I may.
