I love the dress -- it's a fashionable style and my favorite color.
Unfortunately, I have bad news. I paired the dress with super-cute peep-toe pumps Fuzzy gave me for my birthday and that was a tragic mistake. I was so sure the two items would go together that I didn't rehearse them before putting on the show. After completing a lengthy photoshoot, I suddenly realized that, as wonderful as these items are, they clash horribly. The pink of the shoes is in the same color-family as the purple of the dress but the pink is much too light making the colors look terrible together. Ouch!
With that regret, I'm showing you my outfit. Try looking at me from the ankles up or the ankles down.
On the plus side, I love these clothes and simply wearing them made my day. While putting on a pretty dress may be routine to you, it is a thrill to me. A big thrill.
Do you ever find clothes don't match after believing in your mind that they will?
It's awesome. I know the feeling, I'm much shorter than you and your friend (I'm about 5'7) but I have a prob in finding jeans ._. 10 years ago I had to buy guys jeans, nowadays they luckily make tall ones for ladies too.

It fits you perfectly. I absolutely love it. And I'll always love those shoes, no matter what you wear them with!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they clash horribly! Maybe a touch off but I attribute that to lighting! Of course, I am browsing blogs on an itty cellphone screen but as far as I'm concerned, you pulled it off.
ReplyDeleteThey both look pink on my monitor! And very close in color as well. However, I know that often pictures look different on different screens.
ReplyDeleteThat dress fits you like a glove! I love the blocked color.
I do occasionally have ideas that don't work out when I actually put them together. Sometimes they work out better. I never really know until I put them on though.
What a fabulous dress! I agree, I don't think the shoes and dress clash that much, although I can see a light colour difference. I don't think the *styles* of the shoes and dress quite go together, though. The dress is more modern and needs some shoes with very geometric or clean shapes, whereas the shoes are very frou-frou and girly with the ruffles.
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome, Ally! Keep workin' it, girl!
Very good point about the dress/shoes, Sheila. Thanks for the help.
DeleteGracey always picks the most beautiful items, and this dress is no exception. I agree with previous commenters; there is no horrific clash of pinks here. I know I "miss the boat" on the right shoe for my outfits all the time, whether it be the style or the height of the heel, and oh, let's not even talk about figuring out the perfect tights! Relax, Ally, you look lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynne. I get nervous out of insecurity. I may pretend to be confident about dressing up but it's still a new, scary activity for me.
DeleteI'm on the other end of the spectrum, I need a little height!

What a treat to have such a cheerful dress sent to you, such a sweet gift! You look lovely in it, even if shoe choice went awry (I would have gone with a classic black pump- pointed toe, of course). I hate getting excited by how awesome an outfit MUST look, only to look in a full length mirror and see that glaring bad choice. Eh, that's the fun of blogging, huh? Live and learn.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great dress! I love the color blocking on it (one of these days I'll gather up enough patience to try and make a color blocked dress- I'm just so damn lazy).
ReplyDeleteEvery day I find that most of the things I've planned don't at all go together. This is why I no longer attempt mixing patterns. ;-)
Awww, you're so sweet. We all have our little insecurities. I always have to pose with my legs crossed. A friend of mine asked why I always stand like that in my photos and I told her it's because I can't stand to see my fat legs in any other position. Crossed makes them look just a little less fat. haha
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful. The dress looks wonderful on you and I love your hairdo. So pretty.
You look beautiful ... I also dont see any tragic mistake with the colours. Those shoes are KILLER!!!! and of course your legs look amazing in them.
ReplyDeleteNext time I am looking for something for you I am going to get my 6ft5 son to try it on and see if it will be appropriate!
Thank you for always honestly sharing with us how you feel.
awesome outfit and this is the whole point of taking the photos.. you get to take an objective view of yourself and see what looks good, how it can be improved.. what doesnt work.. etc..
ReplyDeleteGREAT dress from Gracey!!
Jodi
Oh, this happens ALL the time and its very annoying. At least you still have two great pieces to work with. Those shoes are great!
ReplyDeleteI agree with some of the other folks, I don't think they clash as horribly as you think they do! But I think Sheila was right in that maybe the styles don't match as much. But I love both pieces so much and the classy necklace you're wearing too! I think you look fab!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they look THAT bad together! They are both very cute items though. I love that the dress has a sort-of mod vibe to it, the shoes also remind me of another decade, maybe the 80's? Maybe that is why they clash a little? I would have thought to put them together too because of the color, so don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteThis dress from the amazing Gracey is fantastic on you, Ally! I'm with Sheila - it's not so much the colour as the style of shoe. There are so many permutations and degrees of "dressy-ness" in women's fashion it can be very hard to hit the right combinations, but you are often doing really well. I would try this dress with tall go-go boots and a simple (but long-ish and substantial) pendant necklace.
ReplyDeleteI often find myself a tad stumped - plenty of times things don't "go" with what I'd hoped / intended they would, but lately I'm having more pleasant surprises of items pairing well with things I hadn't even thought of when I bought them. If I love it, I will find a way to wear it!
It's happened to all of us, hun!
ReplyDeleteThe pink in the dress has a more peach undertone, while the undertone in the shoes is more fuchsia. I personally don't think the uber-feminine ornament on the shoes goes with the bold, stark design of the dress. They are both fabulous pieces, though, and I look forward to much future outfit success!
I make a point of posting my failures as well as my successes... otherwise my blog stands in risk of becoming a "look at me, aren't I fabulous?" blog. Ugh!
Thanks for the feedback, buddy. And I'm at no risk of becoming a "fabulous" blogger. :)
DeleteI agree with those who say the shoes are too feminine for the dress, but I do think the dress is fabulous looking on you. The color blocking is so perfect and your jewelry additions are also perfect. I think a pair of tall boots would give the dress a bit of a 60's mod look and with your legs, oh my.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Debbi, tall boots (patent!) would look 60's mod and amazing. The dress is great on you.
DeleteYou know, mixing colors and trends can be incredibly fun sometimes! Both the shoes and dress are great pieces and suit you so well! I think the dress would be super chic with a pair of black tights and dark heels. Especially now that the weather is getting colder.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that Gracey could share that great dress with you - she's lovely! Hope you enjoyed the holiday!

WOW-the dress looks AMAZING on you!!! And those shoes are adorable. I'm with Sheila-it's not the colors "clashing" as much as the styles. The dress needs something cleaner and more modern--like BOOTS!! and those shoes are screaming for something frilly!!
ReplyDeleteYou know what - I this outfit exactly as you wanted to see it as I can't find the shades difference between the pinks. the dress is fab!
ReplyDeleteall the time! but it's still good to photograph the outfits...it's a good learning experience.
ReplyDeletei think the dress looks great on you!
[oomph.]
Wow... a total power dress that you can take the world with!
ReplyDeleteI have to say you are just going to HAVR to wear it again with the right shoes :) Isnt that just the best excuse ever to wear abeautiful dress again ?
