With electricity and light, I can return to outfit photos. Creating and wearing outfits affects me the same way motorcycle-riding does. Both make me happy and, when I'm unable to engage in them, I turn blue. Returning to these activities after a spell makes me wonder, "Why haven't I been doing this?" The reaction reminds me how much I love to dress up in pretty clothes and ride motorcycles really fast.
Displayed below is my birthday present to myself. Of course, it isn't a "real" outfit for ordinary life, but I find exploring fantasy is fun. Fantasy exercises our creativity and expands our imagination. Do you ever play with fantasy?
I'd love to hear your reaction to these photos.
What DOES pass for a normal life?! Not anything intersting,I'm sure!!!
ReplyDeleteEEEK, I love this, how bloody fabularse! Look at you, posing like a star. Can't help but notice how happy you are indeed in that little gem! Gawd, you make me want to go prancing about in tulle now.....that would brighten up my work day,for sure!
XXX
You look wonderful in this pink and purple tutu! I love the striped leg warmers. I need a tulle skirt so bad!!
ReplyDeleteDo you officially dance, or just put on a good show for the pictures? I can't remember.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love the color you chose for the tutu. I'm also very jealous that my legs will never be as fit as yours. And I'm glad your life has finally kind of returned to normal...or, should I say "normal?" Hehe.
In my case, "normal" warrants quotation marks. :)
DeleteAbsolutely Fabulous. I'm so glad you have your electricity back. I know it must be a relief. And the tutu is great. But you need black ballet shoes.
ReplyDeleteHow much fun! I'm so glad you got to have a dress up night after your power came back on. You look like a ballerina. And you're positively glowing.
ReplyDeleteI like the believe every outfit has a little bit of my fantasy life in it, but Halloween was the most recent time I put together something just for fun. I need to do it more often.
(Also re: your comment on today's post - I always come to YOUR blog for the comments. It's often a great intellectual discussion going on.)
you look great! i love the purple--it's a little bit more out of the box!
ReplyDeleteI'm wandering so far outside the box that I'm not sure I'll ever find my way back in!
Deleteim loving that purple!! well im loving it all but purple is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteYay! Wanna borrow the tutu?!
DeleteI don't think any of us live "normal" lives, lol! I am loving the purples and pink and those leg warmers, but I am biased because purple is my favorite color. Glad you have your electricity back on and you can resume outfit posts :) Heather
ReplyDeleteAllyAllyAlly! I was so excited when I spotted the thumbnail of this post, which shows your first photo from the chin up, and I had an idea what was coming. :) Beyond being totally adorable, I love seeing the joy just radiating from your embodied self.
ReplyDeleteEchoing the brilliant Megan Mae - I enjoy both your spaces for their gatherings of smart and kind people. Though my early years in dance had lots to do with my love of costume as a concept related to anything we put on our bodies, I wonder if not being especially drawn to fantasy-wear is a function of the privilege I've had to dress pretty much as I please day-to-day. Or perhaps I just lack imagination, lol. Good question, as usual!
You must feel so good in that!! I mean, who has ever lived and didn't desire to feel what you're emitting in these pictures. Every one of us for sure. You have beautiful legs!
ReplyDeleteI think you should eat a birthday cupcake in your tutu.
Exploring fantasies in a healthy way is a MUST!! How else will we bring to life our innermost goodness and truth? I love the fact that you've channeled this ballerina, an archetype for many girls. As a non-dancer, I admire your ballet legs, too. This is a joyous way to embrace the return of electricity and light! Now go ride your bike really fast!! It's time to celebrate!!
ReplyDeleteWell Hello! I've been trying to motivate myself to go take ballet again, I think it's been accomplished
ReplyDeleteXo Megan
Always love dancing, you are an inspiration to me.

I love how happy you look in these photos!
ReplyDeleteLove the matching legwarmers! This whole post goes rather well with your blog colour scheme. You've got great legs!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the matching colors, which isn't intended but simply a reflection of my preferences in hues.
DeleteYou look so happy and gorgeous! I love the striped legwarmers, they remind me of my penchant for The Kids From Fame back in the 1980s. Your legs are fantastic. x
ReplyDeleteLove those long legs !! you look so good :) Kisses

You look so happy in these pictures, just looking at them makes me happy too :)
ReplyDeleteYep it passes for normal life...
ReplyDeleteBecause this is a part of your normal life, rite? :) What's "abnormal" about dressing up and fantasy :)?
Anyways, looking great :)

It is normal for me; I recognize, however, that others with more pedestrian attitudes find me outside the norm, but I can't/won't live by their rules.
DeleteSuch a fun tutu! I always love pictures with tutus, there's something so absolutely feminine about them. Also, I'm glad you got the power back, and that you're okay. Those storms have me worried sick about everyone I know from US. There are so many who will suffer the aftermath of the storms.
ReplyDelete"Normal" is overrated. :)
ReplyDeleteBut anyway - you look fantastic in these pictures, your joy radiates in all of them! The colors are so pretty too and so perfectly you!!
Stunning exploration of fantasy and very inspirational. My daughter was a dancer for many years, so I appreciate your graceful poses and the vibrant colors that you chose to celebrate the return of light.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures, Ally, they make me smile. It's good to dress up in outfits that make you feel good. Whether you go out in them, or they are for your (and readers) eyes only, it is important to make yourself happy. I like to wear really nice clothes (comfy, not constricting but great fit and colours) at home. We rarely have unexpected guests (I don't open the door) but I like to be comfortable, and I like to look nice at home. Not fantast stuff, but do what makes you happy :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the color, the poses and seeing you smile.
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job here Ally - and i continue to admire your awesome legs.
I never dress up - well just for Halloween.
My daughter danced for years and years, and I've had the opportunity to see so much professional dance that I too simply appreciate the long graceful lines you've created. Even better, you radiate joy. You chose the best color in your leotard and tutu. You look lovely and I'm giving you a standing ovation.
ReplyDeleteThank you for cheering me up with this post! You look like you're having so much fun and it brought back memories of myself as a little girl. I always wanted to be a ballerina but my parents couldn't afford dancing school. I would spend hours in my room creating dance costumes for myself and doing my own approximation of ballet. I think I had more fun doing that than if I had actually gone to dancing school!
ReplyDeleteBonnie
Ballet Beautiful!! I love the colors, purple is my favorite, it can be bright and fun without being over-powering. I love the look on your face, you are so happy in your outfit photos! It's awesome.
ReplyDeleteLook at you .. happy and smiling and dressed in your gorgeous tutu. I am so happy your gifted yourself this.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your have the power back ... I'm so lost when our lights go out for a few hours. It amazes me how much we reply on electricity.
You look STUNNING!!! I am totally jealous of your fabulous legs!!!
ReplyDeleteYour joyeous smile is the best part of the outfit!
So glad to hear your power is back on, what a stressful time that must have been, glad you're ok. Can we talk about how attractive your calf muscles are- yowza! I love this ballerina inspired outfit, fun and whimsical, just the way a birthday present should be!
ReplyDeleteHow perfect, you in your birthday outfit is "electricity and light" in it's own right! And now I want some leg warmers too.
ReplyDeleteI can just tell by these photos how happy this outfit makes you. I can practically hear you giggling. It's very cute!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are channeling the little girl in you with these fantasy outfits. I envy my daughter all the time as I also would love to live in a tutu.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute.
Daphne.
Your tutu is adorable. And this is EXACTLY how you should dress for your birthday; in something that makes you happy and makes you feel pretty. You look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAlso, love the leg warmers.
This outfit is basically everything I love. Those colors are my favorite. The tutu is ADORABLE. You look fantastic. These photos are super cute, I especially love the one in the middle with your hands on your knees. :) I kind of (really) want to take a ballet class now so I can wear an outfit similar to this one hahaha!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous in your purple tutu - and this photo shoot looks like so much fun! :)
ReplyDeletep.s. - I had so much fun reading your comments the last time I nominated you for an award, that I've decided to nominate you for the Sunshine Award! Hope you can play along - details are on my blog. :)

Hee hee! Love the booty shot. :) And the legwarmers. I don't play with fantasy much when it comes to my wardrobe, but I do enjoy good fantasy novels and movies.
