Back To Normal...

... or at least what passes for normal in my life.  :)

With electricity and light, I can return to outfit photos.  Creating and wearing outfits affects me the same way motorcycle-riding does.  Both make me happy and, when I'm unable to engage in them, I turn blue.  Returning to these activities after a spell makes me wonder, "Why haven't I been doing this?"  The reaction reminds me how much I love to dress up in pretty clothes and ride motorcycles really fast.

Displayed below is my birthday present to myself.  Of course, it isn't a "real" outfit for ordinary life, but I find exploring fantasy is fun.  Fantasy exercises our creativity and expands our imagination.  Do you ever play with fantasy?

I'd love to hear your reaction to these photos.

  3. Do you officially dance, or just put on a good show for the pictures? I can't remember.

Anyway, I love the color you chose for the tutu. I'm also very jealous that my legs will never be as fit as yours. And I'm glad your life has finally kind of returned to normal...or, should I say "normal?" Hehe.

    1. In my case, "normal" warrants quotation marks. :)

  4. Absolutely Fabulous. I'm so glad you have your electricity back. I know it must be a relief. And the tutu is great. But you need black ballet shoes.

  5. How much fun! I'm so glad you got to have a dress up night after your power came back on. You look like a ballerina. And you're positively glowing.

I like the believe every outfit has a little bit of my fantasy life in it, but Halloween was the most recent time I put together something just for fun. I need to do it more often.

(Also re: your comment on today's post - I always come to YOUR blog for the comments. It's often a great intellectual discussion going on.)

  8. I don't think any of us live "normal" lives, lol! I am loving the purples and pink and those leg warmers, but I am biased because purple is my favorite color. Glad you have your electricity back on and you can resume outfit posts :) Heather

  9. AllyAllyAlly! I was so excited when I spotted the thumbnail of this post, which shows your first photo from the chin up, and I had an idea what was coming. :) Beyond being totally adorable, I love seeing the joy just radiating from your embodied self.

Echoing the brilliant Megan Mae - I enjoy both your spaces for their gatherings of smart and kind people. Though my early years in dance had lots to do with my love of costume as a concept related to anything we put on our bodies, I wonder if not being especially drawn to fantasy-wear is a function of the privilege I've had to dress pretty much as I please day-to-day. Or perhaps I just lack imagination, lol. Good question, as usual!

  10. You must feel so good in that!! I mean, who has ever lived and didn't desire to feel what you're emitting in these pictures. Every one of us for sure. You have beautiful legs!
I think you should eat a birthday cupcake in your tutu.

  11. Exploring fantasies in a healthy way is a MUST!! How else will we bring to life our innermost goodness and truth? I love the fact that you've channeled this ballerina, an archetype for many girls. As a non-dancer, I admire your ballet legs, too. This is a joyous way to embrace the return of electricity and light! Now go ride your bike really fast!! It's time to celebrate!!

    1. You're right about the matching colors, which isn't intended but simply a reflection of my preferences in hues.

  16. You look so happy and gorgeous! I love the striped legwarmers, they remind me of my penchant for The Kids From Fame back in the 1980s. Your legs are fantastic. x

Because this is a part of your normal life, rite? :) What's "abnormal" about dressing up and fantasy :)?
    Anyways, looking great :)

    1. It is normal for me; I recognize, however, that others with more pedestrian attitudes find me outside the norm, but I can't/won't live by their rules.

  19. Such a fun tutu! I always love pictures with tutus, there's something so absolutely feminine about them. Also, I'm glad you got the power back, and that you're okay. Those storms have me worried sick about everyone I know from US. There are so many who will suffer the aftermath of the storms.

  20. "Normal" is overrated. :)

But anyway - you look fantastic in these pictures, your joy radiates in all of them! The colors are so pretty too and so perfectly you!!

  21. Stunning exploration of fantasy and very inspirational. My daughter was a dancer for many years, so I appreciate your graceful poses and the vibrant colors that you chose to celebrate the return of light.

  22. Lovely pictures, Ally, they make me smile. It's good to dress up in outfits that make you feel good. Whether you go out in them, or they are for your (and readers) eyes only, it is important to make yourself happy. I like to wear really nice clothes (comfy, not constricting but great fit and colours) at home. We rarely have unexpected guests (I don't open the door) but I like to be comfortable, and I like to look nice at home. Not fantast stuff, but do what makes you happy :-)

  23. I love the color, the poses and seeing you smile.
You did an amazing job here Ally - and i continue to admire your awesome legs.
I never dress up - well just for Halloween.

  24. My daughter danced for years and years, and I've had the opportunity to see so much professional dance that I too simply appreciate the long graceful lines you've created. Even better, you radiate joy. You chose the best color in your leotard and tutu. You look lovely and I'm giving you a standing ovation.

  25. Thank you for cheering me up with this post! You look like you're having so much fun and it brought back memories of myself as a little girl. I always wanted to be a ballerina but my parents couldn't afford dancing school. I would spend hours in my room creating dance costumes for myself and doing my own approximation of ballet. I think I had more fun doing that than if I had actually gone to dancing school!
