It was 19 degrees when I woke up today. To combat the cold, I chose color. Yes, color!
Bright colors can be a nice remedy for the dull cold of Winter. When I spotted this skirt, I decided I want to wear it regardless of season. The colors appeal to me and their odd combination is striking. Yes, that really is purple beneath the orange!
I paired the skirt with a wonderful top just given to me as a Christmas present by Wendy, my friend in South Africa. (Check out her blog, Simply Sassy.) Also showing up for duty are mustard-yellow tights (Hue, $7) and gold flats (Payless, $12).
What do you think? And, btw, what colors do you wear in Winter?
Color is fun! Especially if it cheers you up during the dark, dreary winter days. I'm beginning to realize I don't wear color much. And by much, I mean not at all. Oops.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks sweet... especially with the yellow tights! Red is my go-to winter colour, although I usually get some burn-out with it after Christmas and have to take a mini-break. I'm thinking green and burgundy for the second half of winter maybe. ; )
ReplyDeleteColour can brighten up even the dreariest of winter days. You look super cute and I LOVE the skirt. I am currently reviewing my wardrobe ~ being in summer at the moment we are all into colour. In winter I do wear a lot of black, brown and blue but do have some splashed of colour ~ especially love orange.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you except for the sleeveless top. Brrr... I'd like to think I wear loads of bright colors all year long, but my warmer gear is definitely have more subdued hues. I make up for it with bright winter jackets, scarves, and hats.
ReplyDeletePurple and orange is one of my favourite colour combos now! Love it! Would have loved to see a fourth colour in the top... like a kelly green!
ReplyDeleteAww Ally, you look so pretty. I love the colours. I wear whatever colour I feel like - mostly though deeper shades and black, but last winter, I tried to wear 'happier' colours. I think you can wear whatever pleases you.
ReplyDeleteBTW - if your ears were ringing yesterday it's because Lynn and I were talking about you while driving to Pretoria. My sisters and daughter have all commented on how sweet you are :-) But, back to the reason, we were talking about your hair and both think you look fabulous with the style you sported on your prom photos and Lynn thinks you'd be stunning with one of Halle Berry's styles ... I'll go hunting for a pic of the style and see what you think.
You're a treasure and I just adore you and having you as a friend of mine is My Privilege.
Hugs
That color blocked skirt is great. I have a similar one only it's a pencil skirt in red and purple. Styling it with the yellow tights was truly inspired. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI like to wear red, sapphire, purple, and pink in the winter. But I love wearing those colors all year round.

Tracy

ReplyDeleteIf it was not a present from Wendy I would have asked you to send it my way when you got tired of it :)
i love that skirt and the continuation of color with the mustard tights is so clever
ReplyDeletelove it

Colors are a great way to get out of the cold weather rut. This skirt is fabulous! You pulled off the mustard tights very well. We are both a little hesitant to try them.
ReplyDeleteOhmy! I love that skirt. I agree, it would look great with a bright kelly green or turquoise top. I wear a lot of black and red.. pretty much year round. I've tried to infuse more color, but I still wear black, grey, white a bunch.
ReplyDeletelove the colors in the pleated skirt! looks great with the mustard tights. i haven't worn too many colors this season, mostly because my maternity clothes are pretty neutral. but come spring i am soooo going for the brights!!!

MUSTARD TIGHTS!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are so the same person. I'm obsessed with mustard. I got a pair of mustard tights (Target) for Christmas last week. I can't wait to wear them. I hope I look at least half as good in them as you do!
I hope you had a lovely holiday and NYE. I have a feeling 2012 is going to be an awesome year for you, sweet friend. :)
I do the same thing--I pull out all my bright colors when it's cold outside. And I wear purple and orange together too. It's 65 degrees here in San Francisco today, so I can't complain!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great use of color (I tend to avoid color so I really, really appreciate how pretty others look in it) - and the pleats on the skirt are perfect!

Bold use of color. You know, it's crazy, but I tend to have a color I associate with each month, so January is frequently strong blues and silver. I have to push myself to break out of my color rut.
ReplyDeleteI think color is IMPERATIVE in winter! I'm trying to wear more red....it's just such a great color! I like how you've mixed this....the skirt is bright and gorgeous, but you let it be the centerpiece with the tights and kept it simple up top. PERFECT! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteI love stockings and colorful tights! floral dresses, pink and pumpkin
