Boyfriend Shirt

Sometimes you don't need to shop for an outfit -- you just reach into your boyfriend's closet.  A crisp, white shirt can be all you need.

Here's my take on this look.  Simple, with pops of color to make it interesting.

What do you think?

  1. I love a good boyfriend shirt. Being short a boyfriend though, I just went out and bought a men's shirt. Love the hot pink leggings!

  2. Back when the husband was the boyfriend, he'd let me steal his shirts. I just wasn't allowed to wear them out of the house - being a bit revealing of the leg and all!

  5. I love the bright pink with the top! You did a good job of creating a quick & cute look :) I love the scarf too, but I am partial to them.

  6. Wow. If my legs looked that good, I'd wear bright pink too. Just a suggestion, but have you tried using the scarf as a belt? I think that punch of color in the middle would look fab.

  7. Aww cute idea! I love stealing hubby's clothes, though they've only appeared on the blog a couple of times. Of course the last time I stole something from him - I turned it into a skirt. Meep!

Also I love the pink with red. I need to make myself a note to pair the two more often.

  8. I've actually never worn my husband's shirts--they're WAY to big! I've worn his T-shirts as pajama tops, but never out of the house. I have a few button down shirts of my own from my corporate life, and I like to wear them with belts so they're not to businessy.

I agree with Debbi: your legs look amazing!

  9. What a fun look -- I love the hot pink legs! I love wearing my hubby's stuff, but mostly it's just relegated to lounging around the house.

By the way, have you seen this story? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/9028479/Couple-raise-child-as-gender-neutral-to-avoid-stereotyping.html

  10. Personally, this outfit isn't my kind of thing. I would wear (and have worn) a boyfriend shirt with jeans, heels and a solid colored shirt underneath. (Unbuttoned and belted, sans any other accessories!) I'm not much of a fashion risk-taker.

I also miss your old hair. To be honest, there's something about this current coloring that doesn't jive with your complexion. The shorter, darker 'do was super flattering, and I hope to see you rock it again sometime!

  11. I love the idea of this post! Will it be an entire series--feminizing masculine pieces? I'd love that.

  12. In principle this is a good idea and I like your way of pairing it with deliberately non-neutral colors... but I think part of what's so appealing/interesting about the "boyfriend" clothes is that they usually look oversized on a female body, playing hide-and-seek with its outline (which could be pretty effed up if you think about it closely - infantilization? fragilization? there's definitely a size-ist dimension to it). So to truly "follow" the look you'd have to get a shirt that's a few sizes up, I guess... but hey, whatever works for experimentation is fine!

  13. OMGoodness ... If I had those legs let me tell you I would also be wearing one of my hubby's shirts to show them off. You look ultra cute!!!!

  14. I love those hot pink leggings! Personally I think the "boyfriend shirt" could be a little longer/bigger, but that's just my opinion. I like the bright blue scarf too, such a cheery colored outfit. :)

  16. Its actually a little funny when we reverse roles sometimes. I was not feeling well last night, and was exhausted from work, so wearing a business pants suit with a button down shirt, I decided to just take my hair and put it back in a little bun. Because I was a little overworked, my hair was slightly slicker then normal so pulling it back as such appeared I had no hair.
Immediately one of my gay friends gave me a big hug and said I looked like a boi, and was so happy. He thought i cut my hair and came over to the other side...Nope..hair still here...
Those leggins just popp out completely it is almost like a radioactive color!..Looks great...you had a lot of fun with this...

  17. I love the variation with the blue scarf more than the belt. : ) I never really seem able to rock my boyfriend's clothes, except as pyjamas. THey're simply too big, and not in a good way but in a too-big way. Blah. Inarticulate today!

  20. Those leggings are awesome. And I think the shirt looks great on you, belted or with the scarf. I think it's be great over a little black pencil skirt too.

  22. The crisp white shirt is one of my favorite classic pieces. There are so many ways to wear it. I like how you wore so much color with yours. The shirt would need to be much longer to get away with wearing leggings, though. But other than that, it's super cute. Love the rolled up sleeve.

  24. I love the bf shirt look! I like how you added the little belt because it gives you more definition around the waist.
