The charge? "Age-Inappropriate Dress." When taken before the Judge, my plea will be, "Guilty, as charged, your Honor." What else can I say?
My defenses are that I love this look and, when I was young, I wasn't allowed to enjoy it. At 17 years old, I couldn't dress like this no matter how hard I wanted to. And I desperately wanted to. Still do.
So, now in the midst of my second childhood, you'll have to cut me some slack. Please!
I learned that you can wear socks with heels from my fashion-mentor, Ashley. I love when other bloggers teach you new tricks. Have you ever worn socks with heels? Would you?
Oh, I forgot to mention: the cute skirt ($20) and matching socks ($8) came from Hot Topics; the shoes (previously seen) came from Payless ($20). The top is a generic black leotard ($15).
ReplyDeleteYou decide what's age-inappropriate :) I am not personally a fan of "shrieking" pink and I wouldn't dare to wear such a short skirt myself without tights but I acknowledge that this is a well-crafted outfit (neutral unobtrusively elegant top + boldly colored skirt, very short skirt balanced out by knee-high socks), and it makes you look really happy, confident, and like you're having a good time!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
poet
Thanks, poet, for the support. I appreciate that you grasp what I'm going for here -- personal happiness. I'm not suggesting anyone else wear this in public.
ReplyDeleteI agree with poet. Its a well put together outfit and we are all entitled to live out our dreams now and again.
ReplyDeleteI didn't dress the way I wanted to in my youth (too shy to draw attention to myself and not enough confidence in my ability to put an outfit together) these days I'm more comfortable in my skin but I have a ten year old fashionista who tells me when I've gone too far. There's nothing like hearing 'mum you're too old for that' to bring you down to earth with a bump.
I think the outfit looks great. Definitely youthful, but fun and playful! And I totally love wearing socks with sandals...fashion is all about trying new things!
ReplyDeletewooot woot.. with legs like that you had better wear stuff like this!! yowzers!! knock out!! :)
ReplyDeletelove it, you are getting so adventurous..is really great to see.. and love the pink.. matches your blog :)
miss ya, sorry I havent been by for awhile!! mwah xoxo J
I agree with everyone above. It's about happiness.
ReplyDeleteI Dress like I feel not what others think I should dress like. Even though I'm only 24, a lot of people think I don't wear stuff that is age appropriate. And I just like to wear "childish"(like with cute stuff on it) clothes with a lot of glitter and colors, that's just me :)
No fashion crime here! I absolutely love this look. Reminds me of how I wanted to dress when I was 13 but I could never quite get it this far. I love clothing for this reason: you can be who you want to be, when you want to be it. This look is kind of punkster cool. Your February 24 is totally elegant. Total opposites, and guess what? They both work for you! I feel like a lot of bloggers fall into the trap of wearing the same style all the time. It might be pretty, but it's boring.
ReplyDeleteI love those socks, too, but I'm sure you knew that already without me saying it.
Thanks for your sweet comment, yo! I am glad that you appreciate how I "quietly build and promote" my blog. I think some blog owners have a tendency to go over the top with the promotion thing. I'm happy to know at least someone recognizes I'm not like that--and I'm still moderately successful, considering! :)
That skirt is so pink and so cute. If you want to age it a bit, I would pair it with black tights and black boots.
ReplyDeleteGreat legs btw :)
How very cute!
ReplyDeleteActually I have wanted to try the sock+heel look BUT have not been successful at it.
Oooo ! I LOVE Hot Topic !! You look Great and it doesn't matter how other people think you should dress for age. It is all about how you feel. I wear Hello Kitty t shirts with mini skirts some days to go get my kids from school lol. I was mistaken for a kid at my sons middle school lol. Hello Kitty gets em every time.
ReplyDeleteDid I mention that I LOVE LOVE this look ? !
ReplyDeleteJoan Rivers would be all over your ass.
ReplyDeleteI do love the skirt, though.
And you look pretty hot.
So she might be okay with it.

Have you seen Joan Rivers' face lately? She doesn't have any legs to stand on in criticizing others' appearances.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys for the supportive comments. I'm glad my playfulness is received in the spirit I intend for it.
ReplyDeleteI just love the "Britney" look here!! And it's refreshing to escape from your usual style (which is usually elegant, holywood chic and feminine outfits). You're rocking it!!! But I have to be honest - I don't like the diamond necklace combined with that skirt... Please don't hate me - my taste in jewellery is tottaly different anyway(obviously - ha!)
ReplyDeleteOther than that it's a hot outfit and it has always been my secret fantasy to wear something like that... Like you, I didn't allow it to myself, as I always had chubby thighs, felt fat and banned mini skirts forever....
Thanks for rocking my fantasy!
Someone once told me "youth is wasted on the young"
ReplyDeleteI remember being reluctant to dress daringly in my 20's and 30's (not enough confidence). But feel more confidence embrace it in my 40's - and from time to time do exactly that- props to you!!!
Well put together - would like this also with black tights and boots as well- maybe with the pink socks showing at top of boots.
dimi, you're right. This morning, after posting it, I realized the necklace doesn't work -- and, even worse, I have a different necklace sitting in my drawer that would be perfect. Coordinating all the elements of an outfit isn't easy: I'm lucky if I get most of them right. This choice was a mistake. Thanks for pointing it out -- that's how I learn. :)
ReplyDeleteLori and Alecia both suggest a variation on this which really appeals to me: adding black tights and boots. That would age the look and be quite cute. Thanks, gals!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of Cher's outfit in Clueless! Cute!
ReplyDeleteI love that you're mixing two patterns of pink here and that you're so obviously loving how you feel in this! That's the best part!
ReplyDeleteI love it. It reminds me of Alicia Silverstone as Cher in Clueless. God, I love that movie. My boyfriend, Paul Rudd, is in that film. But I digress. You look like you're having so much fun. I love socks with sandals and heels. I've been embracing that look too!
ReplyDeleteYou go!
xo,
Tracy
if we didnt indulge our inner children the world would be full of miserable grown ups. that color pink is adorable! if it makes you happy, thats all that matters. when I get dressed its all about creating a mood for myself.
ReplyDeleteps--lovin the socks with heels combo thats cropping up this season
Its cute and fun... mission accomplished! I wish I could pull that look off, too. Maybe in my next life....
ReplyDeleteI love the look of socks with heels, but haven't been brave enough to try it yet!
ReplyDeleteAll rise for Judge Baxter! "This Court has considered all the evidence and taken into account your prior good record and responsible behaviour. Furthermore, I am satisfied that you have great dress sense and have seen abundant proof of your kind heart, sparkling wit and generosity amongst the blogging community. Also, you look great in pink and the knee socks are a great touch. Ahem. The Court accepts your plea but will not pass a sentence nor record a conviction. The defendant is free to leave and wear as many more gorgeous clothes as he wishes. Case dismissed!"
ReplyDeleteI really like this! It is youthful and playful and you look so happy. And I personally think it looks very good with heals and socks =)
ReplyDeleteSocks with heels are awesome! I think pink is just your color, you are rockin' it! I think when it comes to fashion, everything is game-with one exception=fit. Things have to fit, if your pants are sagging, wear a belt. If its too short, wear tights or layer etc.
ReplyDeleteI think I've told you this before, but you have one of the few blogs where I actually look forward to reading each and every comment almost as much as the post itself! I always know Bonnie's are going to make me laugh, for instance, and everyone is just so kind-hearted. And what Ashley said about you being able to pull of the two completely different looks was spot-on. You don't limit yourself, and that keeps things more interesting!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is FUN FUN FUN! I have never worn socks with heels, but I love the look. I have a few pairs of heels and find myself rarely wearing them, and you'd think I'd be all over them. I love to look at them, though...like they're sculptures. Maybe I just haven't found the perfect pair for me yet! Anyway, back to you...I love how much fun you're clearly having in the pictures, finally realizing some lifelong dreams. Floats my boat!
yes, i had worn colored socks too, but this bright pink is amazing, this post is showing how brave you are to try differnt outfits, and yes, why not? If I desire to wear something that I missed, I will also take the chance to wear it when I could! The court dialogue is funny!
ReplyDeleteI agree with some other posters here. This look is very Cher. I have some over-the-knee socks that I wear with heels in fall and summer. They look cute with a trench coat, and are a perfect transition look. I really relate to the "age-appropriate" issue. I have been struggling with this a little myself lately. I think it's all about balance. There are times to have fun, but other times when you have to wear other things.
ReplyDeleteI hope you won't be mad at for me saying that I see a little Britney Spears "hit me baby one more time here?" btw you decide what is appropriate! That skirt is simply adorable!
ReplyDeleteSweetheart, I am so glad that you are dressing the way you want, it is all about self expression and joy for me, so why not go for it? My best friend experienced the same thing when she finally had the body that matched her identity, and playing dress up toghether was the best of times. Sending you big hugs! xx

hi there! thanks for commenting on my katy perry post!! i came to check you out and am so glad i did!! i really like this post. i think you look adorable and i definitely cut you some slack. while it may be technically "age inappropriate" it's also terribly cute. had the skirt been way shorter, had the blouse been too low cut it would have been a different story, but i think you kept it classy and focused instead on the cuteness of a look like this which you can pull off when it matches your personality! so i say wear it proud darling!!
ReplyDeletelovely "meeting" you and thanks for all the kind words.

My motto is always, if you've got it, flaunt it. And with legs like yours, mini skirts should definitely be embraced. As Ms Wendy Brandes would say, "Wear what you want"
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit late to the conversation, but I'll add my voice to the "wear what you want" crowd! I wouldn't say this was my style exactly, but you look smashing! ; )
ReplyDeleteCute outfit, but I think Joan, Kelly and Giuliana would tell you that it is more appropriate for the kid that was in True Grit! :)
ReplyDeleteBrett
haha amazing, you have really nice legs ;)
ReplyDeletegreat to see how you dare to show your true you to the whole world,
keep up the goed work!!
xoxo
I love the skirt!!
