Blogger Meetup (Suzanne)

One of my favorite bloggers is Suzanne from Canada. I assumed that because of the great distance between us, I'd never get to meet her in person. I was wrong!

Last week Suzanne said she was joining her husband on a brief visit to New York for business. She asked if, on short notice, I wanted to meet her. Leaping out of my seat, I shouted "Yes!"

Suzanne had some free time yesterday, so I took the day off and popped into Manhattan. (It's good to be your own boss.) We dined at the comfortable Sarabeth's and afterward walked in the rain through Central Park. We had a lovely time.

The meetup was an unexpected delight. Suzanne is as charming as she appears on her blog. We chatted effortlessly on multiple subjects. Her personal qualities are rare and admirable (e.g., compassion; wisdom). I cherish those traits when I encounter them. Plus, I love her hair!

One of the topics we discussed is how you get to know someone more deeply by meeting them in person than just communicating online. This truth is one of the reasons Suzanne is organizing a big blogger meetup this Summer. She and two others are planning an event that promises to be exciting. Information about it is here.

I feel like I made a new friend yesterday and felt a warm glow on the train-ride home.

Do you know Suzanne? If not, go visit her blog. You'll enjoy it.

  1. You are way ahead of the game Ally! : )

I had such a brilliant time with you. First words that come to mind when I think of you? Considerate and generous. I'm so happy we had the chance to meet and that you were able to spend as much time as you did with me. BTW...we used that wonderful umbrella all day and felt marvellously chic.

I know we are going to have so much fun in Vancouver : )

The driving distance from NYC to Toronto is 489 miles...just in case you get the urge in the Spring to make a quick trip (hint hint!). I am an hour and a half away from Buffalo NY and the same latitude as New Hampshire.

Thanks again for everything! I owe you lady.

    bisous
    Suzanne

    1. I could make it to your home in a day of riding on my motorcycle. That puts an idea in my head...

  3. Oh, I'm so glad you two met. Suzanne is indeed wise and considerate and has a great sense of humour. It sounds like you two had a wonderful time together, which is usually the case I've found when meeting bloggers in person. Maybe I'll see you this summer...

  4. Lovley comments. iI so wish i could have joined, but fever + rain, is not a good combination for meeting someone for the first time. My impression of her, is very much the same. She is a very thoughtful and intelligent person, and I LOVE her sense of humour!
    Happy week!

  6. Like an excited 80s teenager, my first thought when I saw who your latest meet-up was with was "No way!" :) I've followed Suzanne's blog for some time now (I'm as good as certain that we connect via your site, Ally) and love that she's a passionate fellow Canadian blogger. How awesome that you two had a chance to meet face-to-face!

*PS* Thank you very much for your caring, understanding comment on today's post. I know that balance is something you're striving for big time this year yourself, my friend, and I hope that we're able to help and encourage each other on that front in many ways throughout 2015 and beyond.

  7. What lovely rainy day pics. I wholeheartedly agree with you on meeting people in person. You can really get to know the sense of a person through their writings and the images they share, through their comments, and by communicating "on the side" (as opposed to comments alone). But meeting in person is priceless. I can still see you in my mind's eye standing shyly in front of that BBQ restaurant. Ally, shy? Why, yes. You were even more delightful in person, and I look forward to seeing you and Robin again in June. 😄
