From B.A.D. to Good

Do you remember me?  It's been so long.  A full week since my last post.  Normally I have to restrain myself from posting too often, so this lengthy absence is a break from routine and may have prompted some of you to check local hospitals and the morgue...

The explanation is simple -- work is crushing me.  Absorbing all my time and energy, it has prevented me from blogging.  And that has me feeling B.A.D. -- which is a medical acronym for "Blogging Absence Depression."  Do you ever feel B.A.D.?

To cure this affliction, I vowed to blog today no matter what.  I played with some gifts generously given me by Selina, paired with a new blouse I found at Forever 21.

When people give me women's clothes, I become overwhelmed with emotion.  Up until now, I never believed I'd be allowed to wear pretty clothes, so to receive them as gifts is oneiric encouragement.  A dream come true.  Receiving gifts makes me cry with joy.

Selina is an attractive young woman living in London.  She recently started following my blog and I started reading hers.  It's fun to meet people who are different from you 'cause you can learn from each other.  Selina fascinates me in several ways.  She also introduced me to Lookbook.

Without any reason, Selina sent me a box of cute clothes and nice jewelry.  I'm wearing them in this outfit, with a cute blouse I just ran across.  Before last week, I'd never visited a Forever 21 so, walking past one in a mall, I couldn't resist entering.  The color and print of this blouse hollered for my attention.  "Ally!  Take me home!"  I stood in the checkout line, a fifty-year old guy in biker-gear, surrounded by young girls who wondered why I was there.  My life is stranger than you imagine.

What do you think of the clothes?  Two technical points.  1. Selina included fishnet stockings which I don't normally wear but like a lot especially in this outfit.  2. I've learned -- from you guys! -- that it's okay to re-purpose clothes (e.g., wearing a dress as a skirt).  My "skirt" here is actually a halter-top.  I like it both ways so now it has dual-purpose.

Thank you, Selina!

  1. Love how you have duel purposed the skirt .. umm top .. it looks awsome! There's an awful lot of sexy leg showing there .. wow!

I can almost empathise with you on the standing in a line in a nice clothes shop .. when I do it in my bike gear I get looks that I'm sure aren't the much different to yours. Sometimes I feel like telling them that 'yes I do wear dresses sometimes .. ya know when I'm not being a big rough biker chick' ... ahh well maybe not so big .. or rough .. not really a biker chick, but hey I got the look down now :-D I actually got quite a few of those looks just at lunch yesterday which was funny cause women give you different looks to the men.

  2. Oh lala!! You always come up with some unique pairings, daring and adventurous. That blouse as a skirt is made for dancing! I can just imagine those tassels swinging to the beat.

I saw a (very) older man come into gamestop looking for Skylanders figures (a game geared at younger children). He seemed pretty up on the game himself. We should do what we enjoy for ourselves whether we're "old" or "young", male, female, biker, or nerd. ;)

My blog roll is so empty without your posts! I'm happy to not only have an Ally post, but one with an OOTD to boot.

  3. I have never been able to wear fishnets or patterned tights because my legs are too chunky. You always show off your stunning legs beautifully. I love that Forever 21 blouse. Great color!

  4. WEAR FISH NETS MORE OFTEN. I love the look on you. Very nice blogger friends you have, Ally. I guess because you are a very nice person. I know this from experience. XO!

  5. Ally, I'm with Bella. You have the most incredible stems and beautiful stockings and tights show them off beautifully! B.A.D. begone!! After getting a Parcel of Joy from Selina, I'm not surprised you stamped your foot and rebelled against the pressure of work. I am absolutely enchanted by the top-as-skirt. The sparkles and gorgeous fringing have my heart aflutter! xoxo

  6. I also agree with Bella, more fishnets! Lovely post, as usual. The outfit has a lot of texture, and I wondered if you had a texture preference?

  7. Nice legs, Buddy!

For realsies though. You should wear more fishnets. I don't wear enough of them, but I love how they make women's legs look. And you've definitely got the legs to wear them.

Also, don't be sad about not blogging. It happens to all of us. I had to completely rearrange my blogging schedule last week which messed me up a bit, but I think I'm on track now. Fingers crossed.

    xoxo,

    Gracey

  8. I'm so in love with this outfit, one of my favourites of yours! Such a nice gesture of her to send you clothing. The colour of the blouse looks so nice on you, and I'm always a fan of legwear! Welcome back! :-)

  9. OMG Ally! You look sensational! I knew there was a reason I was hoarding all of these things :P Your legs look fabulous in the fishnets. And thank you so much for the complimentary words, that means a lot to me. I'm so glad you could wear and love these things and not just look longingly at them in a drawer. Your confidence is growing and it's great to see

  10. Dear Ally, I have most definitely felt this sensation before as well, but never had a precise term for it. B.A.D describes it to a tee. I find that, no matter the circumstances, if I go more than about five days (it used to be a week, but I've noticed over the past year or so, it's dwindled to around five days) I almost always start to feel B.A.D setting in, and simply must try to do something blogging related (researching, writing, image hunting, visiting other blogs, etc), even if a new post doesn't actually go live that day.

*PS* That top is fantastic! I just adore anything with a cute heart print on it. Lucky you having a Forever 21 nearby! I must say, that's one of the few modern shops I really miss now that we live in a small town (the closest Forever 21 is a few hundred miles away - but at least they have a Canadian version of their website that one can shop from regardless of whereabouts in the country they live).

  11. This looks very Spanish to me! The top looks great as a skirt, love the fringe!

  12. Glad to see you posting Ally! I've missed you in my blogroll! I love this outfit - you want to know why? It's not just fun, it has orange! I love orange! I seriously love that top. I hope work improves for you soon!

  14. B.A.D. - I'm sure it will be in medical books now that you've identified it.

The fishnets looks great! I haven't worn them since I was a teenager, but maybe it's time to try them again. And I love the skirt/halter - you look like a 1920's flapper. A pretty little hat or headpiece (a fascinator) would be the crowning glory for this outfit!

  15. I am so freakin jealous. That outfit is fabulous and you look totally wonderful. Jealous!

  16. That halter top makes a sexy lil skirt! I love it! I love when fashion bloggers get innovative. It motivates me to be more creative when it comes to styling my own outfits.

  17. Missed you so much ... I just LOVE the fishnet stockings on those amazing legs of yours. What a special girl Selina is!!!

  18. Ugh, every time you post a pic of your legs, I get INSANELY jealous. Those fishnets look great on you! I love the dress-as-skirt thing too, it really works :)

  19. first of all, that top just pops on you and how amazing is that "skirt" - Eep! Xo Megan, www.TfDiaries.com

  20. Oh how I have missed you. The halter top as a skirt is BRILLIANT as is your acronym "Blogging Absence Depression."

I know you don't fret over strange looks from girls in a Forever 21, but I also get strange looks in Forever 21. I just think judgmental girls shop there, haha. I get a bunch of looks wherever I go anyways, because people in Middle Tennessee, and where I'm from in Columbia, SC just don't dress in anything like I do. I take it as a compliment and keep strutting along!

I hope work gets easier for you =]

  24. So glad you're back! I keep thinking about fishnets but I haven't been brave enough to try them yet.

Everyone takes blog breaks when things get busy in real life. No worries! Blogging shouldn't be a chore--it's fun!

  25. Legs that kill!

I received the cute card, thank you for the kind gesture.

  26. I love this! How creative to make that top into a skirt! I am glad that you could get a break to blog. I hate it when work is so busy/stressful it takes away from your life. Glad to have you back!

  27. I missed you. I noticed you had commented on Megan Mae's post that you were on your way to court and I was wondering if things were hectic with you. It's so nice to have you & your fabulous legs back.

Forever21 is now in the UK, I saw one in Birmingham. I really like the outfit pairing here. Is the scarf with the shirt collar or did you add it? and the skirt is fun - it would move beautifully when you were dancing.

    1. I added the scarf on top of the shirt, to mirror the V-shape of the skirt. The scarf and skirt both came from Selina and I wanted to show off both items. You'll like F21; it's a fun store.

  31. You have some set of legs, perfect for fishnets and that gorgeous skirt. We've never had a Forever 21 near us but one just opened nearby so I must go and have a look, my daughter has already been and says it is great.
I know just what you mean by B.A.D. I find it hard to find the time to post and so many thoughts and ideas go out the window before I get a chance to share them. I have thought of keeping a notebook to jot things down in so I can post them in the future! xx

  32. Have you tried nude fishnet tights? They are awesome for the office. You know I dislike regular pantyhose, but fishnets, now that's another story! Sexy, sexy Ally!

I hope we get to see the rest of that awesome dress. It was made for dancing!

I sent you a little something on Saturday. Getting to a post office is kind of a challenge for me, between work and running a non-driving teen around.

We are crushed at work, too. I feel ya!

  33. I think I got distracted before commenting on this one. But I love the sassy repurposed skirt in combination with the fishnets!
