My first use of it was conservative. A peek of bright sequinny red from under a cardigan. Today, I headed in the other direction -- bold, open display. In contemplating this look, two things came to mind.
First, sophisticated bloggers have taught me that when dressing boldly, you can show skin up top or down below but not in both places; doing that is too much and looks trashy. So I decided to expose my arms and shoulders but conceal my legs behind opaque black tights.
Second, red reminds me of Christmas and, hey!, we're only two weeks away from that, so why not tailor this look to the holiday. I added red booties to complete the outfit.
What do you think? Do you ever dress to match the holidays?
Wabadoo!!! Great dress.
ReplyDeleteHmm! I'd guess it to be rare that I happen to holiday-colour my outfits. You are so glamorous and festive, Ally! Great red boots.
ReplyDeleteAwww! Too much fun! I want to steal those boots right off of you. I'd have to run them through the wash on hot to shrink them down to my size.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a perfect pairing for the first outing of your sparkly red bra.
I've always followed those rules of showing skin. I'm not much of a stickler for fashion rules, but I always thought those made the most sense.
you're rocking this look!
ReplyDeleteI love this!! Is that a skirt!? I love that ruffled skirt!!
ReplyDeleteI really like that you're showing two ways to wear one thing.
I think this is a very pretty and appropriate look for holiday get-togethers, both sparkly and sophisticated. Where did you get those killah boots? I just noticed you're wearing the ring I sent; it looks perfect on you :)
ReplyDeleteThat's why I added a closeup -- so you'd see the ring!
DeleteLooks like a dress.... !
ReplyDeleteI now wonder how you are planning to wear it next.
You turned this into a dress look! It's fantastic and perfect for the holidays. Love those booties.
ReplyDeleteThe second to last picture is my favorite. You look like you're all glammed up to greet your guests at a holiday party. Very festive (especially the booties). I agree with the style rule about exposing your arms OR legs, not both at the same time. I like my arms best, so I usually cover my legs.
ReplyDeleteI really love this look! You look so happy and the top + skirt does read as a dress! Just fabulous. :)
ReplyDeletevery pretty! that's somethig I would definitely wear for Christmas myself
ReplyDeletelovely look. great bracelet and ring by the way
Sexy sexy sexy!
ReplyDeleteThats the least I can say about your look :) Happy Thursday ♥

Va-Va-Va-VOOM!!! Wow do you look AMAZING!!
ReplyDeleteThose boots are pretty killer, too!! I love how the skirt comes up high making almost an empire waist look with the top!! Thrown on a black shawl and you're ready to party!!
Love it! And those boots, I adore those boots. If they ever go missing you'll know who stole them!
ReplyDeleteWowza that is a shiny top and it looks fabulous on you. The boots are perfection. very sexy and with your beautiful smile it is perfect for you.
ReplyDeleteYou look super happy in the pictures :)
ReplyDeleteRed looks awesome on you
Very nice, and superfestive. You can't go wrong with showing only boobs or legs... ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love this look! Very festive.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Red is a _great_ color for you...it adds warmth to your skin and sparkle to your eyes:-)
ReplyDeleteThat look is amazing! Red is a great color on you. If I was going to a dressy party I would totally steal this look.
ReplyDeleteLooooove this outfit! The skirt looks great with the top. When I'm wearing multiple red items, I usually try to match the shades as closely as possible...but the two red tones actually work pretty well together! Also, do I spy a certain bracelet on your right wrist? :)
ReplyDeleteYes! That's yours. I doubted you'd be able to see it so I wore it just for good voodoo.
DeleteRegarding your point about the red shades... in real-life, the two items look very close in color. In photos with reflected light, they move in different directions: the top went toward orange and the boots went toward maroon. That surprised and upset me, but there are some things you can't predict and can't control. I didn't realize this until after the photoshoot when I was reviewing the pictures on my computer.
I dig how you've paired the top with a high skirt! It looks like a lovely dress that way.
ReplyDeleteIf I may ask: have you tried darker eyeshadows like a dark grey or chocolate brown with gold sparkles? I was thinking that a smoky eye might set off your outfit in a different way- I think it's because when I look at the booties and top+skirt I think 'femme fatale'.
Good suggestion for makeup. I'm still learning how to choose that.
DeleteMakeup is its own sparkly world of colors and textures. Guessing from your outfits, I think you'll be creative and awesome at it. (:
DeleteI wish we lived closer as well. But blogger buddies are good as well
ReplyDeletethis outfit is so pretty! i should definitely wear alike

That really does make a great faux dress look! I wouldn't have thought of that, but it so works. I LOVE the first shot of you!
ReplyDeleteLove the pieces together, you look great! Yes, I have dressed for the Christmas season before. This year I am wearing black and gold though! :)
