80's Prom Party

One of my favorite bloggers, Gracey from Fashion For Giants, is going to a 1980's-themed prom party.  A real one in real life for adults with a sense of humor.

Gracey invited her readers to join the party by sending in a picture of themselves in a prom dress.  Of course, that's an offer I couldn't refuse!  So I hightailed it to my favorite thrift store. Luckily they had a pretty prom dress that looks vintage.  It cost only $12 so I snapped it up.  Here's what it looks like.

Oh, and this is my first experiment with orange lipstick; I bought some on my way home from work today.  It's very different but I like it.  What do you think?

  1. I like the lipstick! I'm gaga over orange lipstick myself. I'm also partial to Fuchsia. I picked up a nice tube of it for $0.69 at Walgreens, and it's absolutely perfect. It's fun to try all the shades when they're so cheap!

  2. What a fun idea, I love it and I love the way you dressed up for the "occasion"! But, even if I think that the orange lipstick suits you a lot, I have to admit that I was expecting colorful and bright and fun eye make up :) I think that you'd look great with some colorful eye shadow on your eyelids!

    1. Mea culpa. I wanted to apply eye-makeup but it was too late and I was too tired. The extent of my makeup always depends on the time and energy I have when doing this. Many times, it's 10 pm after a long day of work and it's a struggle just to put on clothes and lipstick. You have, however, given me motivation to try harder!

  3. In India we have the concept of 'farewell for the graduating the class', where usually we wore ethnic Indian wear - sari mostly- no prom gowns there, but I love seeing prom dresses here!! BTW, your prom dress is very elegant - I have seen some really scary ones from the 80s on Ellen show! ha ha ha..Love the orange lipstick, I can never pull it off though - my lips look awkward in orange! You look beautiful!

    1. Thanks, buddy. And, after reading Tanvi's blog, I want to try wearing a sari. But I have no idea where to get one or how to wear it. Tomorrow's project...

  4. Love the orange lipstick! I was hoping you'd have tried it out on your blog after reading your comment that you had bought some. I think it looks great with your skin tone! And this is a super fun and pretty dress. It's fun and formal without being over the top! Love it1

  5. Fun idea! I went to prom junior year and senior year. It was a lot of fun, but there was always someone causing drama and someone else crying in the bathroom. That's just high school!

I like the orange lipstick. It's less intense than red and it's perfect for summer.

I also like the blue of that scarf- looks like a good color for you to play with!

  7. Ally, that orange lipstick is amazing on you. You got a great deal on that highly flattering strapless dress, which could also be worn to a dressy cocktail party with the right accessories.
