Halter-Top Dress

Here's the new dress I bought on Sunday.  It's a halter-top which is a style I'm not familiar with.  It took me a little while to figure out how to wear it.  Are you guys comfortable with these?

I like the cut and color of the dress.  And I tried new poses and tricks to make the pictures more playful.  I hope you enjoy them.  Please give me your thoughts.  Thanks!

Aside from the pillow pet, I love that purple shade! it's so vivid and fun. And those are the cutest shoes! You know I love polka dots. =) Great deal!

  2. That purple is great on you and I love me a good polka dot shoe!! I think halter necklines are really flattering and most of my swim suits are halters.

  4. Woo! That looks so great on you. And the espadrilles are a great match. I think halter tops can be great on many people. I'm not fond of ones that tie because I always fear it'll come undone. But I do like the ones with button closures. I like the fun poses. My favorites are the table ones because I can see the whole outfit though.

  6. I love those dresses! They' re so fun and ladylike! In fact I'm wearing the same kind of dress in green as I'm writing this! (weird, right?) I think you look fab and somehow you look younger in every post (maybe the good make-up tricks?)! Many kisses :)

  7. Such a pretty dress, and it looks great on you! I personally like halter styles but find them difficult to wear because of the bra situation, and because I find it difficult to gauge in which situations exposed shoulders and back are okay modesty-wise... putting on a cardigan on top ruins half the fun! Also, if they're made of a sturdier fabric, you have to beware of not tying them too tight, else you'll get a cramped neck before long. Yours doesn't look like it's doing that, though! Look at me being over-analytical again, oh my... I also love that the panda is in the pictures!

  9. I don't think I have any halter dresses. They're really cute though. They remind me of Marilyn Monroe. I think this looks adorable on you, especially with the shoes and shades!

  12. When I was younger, this was not a flattering look on me. As I matured (interpret this any way you wish) the halter style look suits me best. Your shoulders and arms look very sexy in the halter dress. It's a look I strive for. Well done!

  14. You wear that dress beautifully! And you look happier then I think I've ever seen you.

i can't pull off halter styles, they make me feel all boobs and I'm not comfortable. Must be the good job those nuns at Catholic school did on me;)

  15. This looks great on you! I'm not very large breasted so I doubt that a dress like this would be very flattering to me. I can only imagine figuring such a cut out would be.

  16. This seems to be a good cut for you actually! The color is beautiful, of course; but the halter style is very flattering. I was looking at how you have your make up.....love the lipstick and was wondering if you had ever tried false eyelashes. Hugs to you! ~Serene

  18. Ally, this colour, this style - THIS is a great look on you. I think this is my favourite look of yours ever!

Halters are tricky to wear for most women who have anything larger than an A-cup (or a very perky B-cup) boob. For someone like me, a very complicated strapless bra with adjustable halter neck strap is needed, and even then, too much cleavage is exposed for my taste.

However, this is such a flattering style on many women - but on you, because you have such nice wide shoulders, the way the halter makes an inverted V up to your face it really balances them perfectly. This is your perfect style.

It plays up this (excellent) feature of yours, while also drawing the eye up to the face...and down to the cleavage...and back up to the face (and don't even get me started on the legs!). Fabulous!

  21. I really like the color of your hardwood floors. BEST COMPLIMENT EVER, right?

I think the halter top looks great on you. I have broad masculine shoulders and I actually think that halter tops are more flattering for them than normal tank tops. Maybe I'm just crazay.

Anywho, I think you wore yours great. Also love the shoes you paired with the dress. I see polka-dots, and I like.

  23. You not only bought a halter dress -- You bought a revealing halter dress. LOVE IT. You totally pull off this look. Like Ashley said, halters are great for showing off defined shoulders.

I love the picture of you with the shades. Super adorable!

  28. I've never been much of a halter top wearer, but that would be because twelve years of swimming left me with very broad, big shoulders. In fact, I try to stay away from shoulder baring anything, but usually give in during the summertime because of the heat. With that said, you, I must say, look fabulous in the style! I love the pose in the first picture. It's very feminine and very natural. And of course, I love the shoes! You know me, I'm a sucker for anything polka dot.

  29. I love a halter-neck on you! It's tricky with boobage and arm chub for most of us....

I don't really like necklaces with halter-necks though... you lose the impact of the neckline. Splashy earrings and bracelets are a better pick. You also have to be careful with hoop earrings with this style of dress... it can geta bit "around the way girl".

With that lovely sheeny drapey fabric, the espadrilles are a bit too casual... but the concept of ankle-straps with that dress is good. Try a dressier pair?

  30. You look Stunning in that dress! It is very Marilyn Monroe. GORGEOUS. Those are some HOT shoes too!

  31. This shade of purple (blue? blurple? whatever) is amazing on you.

I myself am not a fan of the halter because they have a tendency to make my already broad shoulders look even more linebacker-ish. It doesn't do that to you, so I'd say this is definitely a style you can rock.

  32. My first thought was, "Wowee, lookout, Marilyn!!" This style and color are really flattering on you, and I love the playful choice in shoes (and stuffed animal accessories, lol). It's obvious how good you feel in this dress. You look radiant!

  33. Nicely worn !
I like the color and how it fits, I see that many other bloggers coincide on it looking very Marylin.... Can you imagine doing a remake of that scene where Marylin's dress is blown up ?

  34. The halter dress is very pretty and great for the summer. Reminds me of a sweet afternoon on a picnic blanket. And I love the colour on you.

The bra situation is hard with those dresses. I try to look for dresses with built in bras or go bra-less *blushes*. But looks like you handled the bra situation perfectly.

  35. The colors you are choosing for yourself in these updated pictures are so lively, bright and contrast your skin tone and smile perfectly. Its a very fun, upbeat beautiful choices.
I do love the sandals!!! The pokadots add so much to it :)
(some day you have to teach me how to accessorize! because you got it down to a science!)
