The Rodeo

My current illness is like riding a bronco. I'm dealing with a powerful, feral beast. Some days I hang on and others I get bucked into dirt of despair.

This morning I saw a neuro-ophthalmologist, my fifth eye doctor. Last night I felt a little nervous so I reflexively joked, "Well, what's the worst that can happen?!"

Wrong question. I'm now scheduled for a MRI to check for brain tumors.

The bronco wins again.

  1. My best friend has been living with a brain tumour for over 6 years, and hers was one that was causing motor function issues and speech issues. She's the editor for a local press house - still working! So, even if it is a brain tumour, it could be treatable or even removable, Ally!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us - I'm sending you good vibes constantly! That's a gorgeous pic too.

Hang on - the bronco could get tired...

  2. I'm so sorry you are going through this.

Sometimes knowing your battle helps you to fight it but first the loss of sight and now more uncertainty. It makes it even more difficult to cope.

I've been keeping you in my thoughts.

  4. As when you learned to ride, there will be knocks, scrapes, and falls through the process. I feel it's both a case of finding what you need to help you be healthy - mentally, physically, and possibly spiritually (subject to your views about that word) - but also come through the history of stats happening.

The bronco will throw you. It's what it does. But from your writing, your sense of adventure, you don't seem to be a person who is willing to sit defeated.

Yes, do take a moment to catch your breath, to cry, and even rage against the frustration of it... But don't give up. You are awesome and you are loved.

  5. Definitely terrifying news to hear when you're already feeling down, but I will say, I am grateful they are taking things seriously and being proactive about imaging/ruling out other problems.

I feel like I'm still battling the system itself to take me seriously.

Maybe your MRI will show some good news. It's about time for winds to change and the bronco to chill out. 😎
