Carried Away

Sometimes I get carried away by my enthusiasm. I'm so eager to play that I don't know when to stop. I hope you'll forgive me if I exceed your fashion-tolerance.

Two days ago, I was walking in town during my lunch break. I've been working too hard and need a reward. Without planning, I veered into a local boutique and perused their sale rack. I spotted a snazzy blouse and some fun socks. The purchases were the impulse for today's outfit.

I was planning to tone the pieces down with a black pencil skirt, but I've been advised to conceal my cylindrical shape by adding skirts that flare. I thought about wearing a pink tulle petticoat underneath a black skirt but I like how nicely the tulle's color goes with the blouse so I jettisoned the skirt and wore the tulle as a skirt.

What gave me the courage to do this? Just this week Suzanne posted a nice article on how gals over 40 can wear tulle skirts with confidence and brio. I'm treating that article as an official stamp of approval from a Fashion Goddess.

What do you think of this?  Is it too much?  Or, as Mae West said, just enough?!

  1. I love the zigzag pattern and the shape and the Amazing stockings. The whole look is v pleasing! I wouldn't wear it myself only because I'm not so fond of wearing too much bubblegum pink myself! If it was in another shade, definitely!!!x

  3. I love the leg wear with the pink tulle. I think you've done a great job of pulling this outfit together. Your eyeshadow is pretty with this look and I'm in love with your hairdo and the soft side swept bang.

  4. I totally adore this! I love the fun flirty tone, and the adventurous spirit. I also like how the stocking zigzags reflect the top zigzags.
If you're going to play why not go the whole hog and add some earrings or hair ornament. I find myself expecting something to round it off. But I always have to use a disclaimer and say my taste is pretty extreme! :-D xo Jazzy Jack

  5. Wow! You've managed to make your crazy long enviable legs look even longer, unbelievable. I think it is the placement of the belt, like an empire waist.

This reminds me of a look you might see on a Barbie, but I have a feeling that might have been exactly what you were going for. I think you are the Barbie in second from the left here...

    amiright?

The stockings are fabulous and I love that you are wearing the tulle. It really has given you the Mae West hips.

    Thanks for the shout-out lady! : )

It is always fun visiting your blog because I have no idea what you'll be wearing or what you'll be writing about.

  16. That dress's shape is absolutely fantastic on you. The print is very lengthening and flattering, and the pink is very you. I think it's completely appropriate to wear tulle at any age! It's our god given right as women!

    1. Also is the Carried Away a Sex and the City pun? You know how Carrie Bradshaw wears that pink tulle skirt in all of the intros? If so, love it ;)

    2. Of course it is! Good catch on the pun. Most of my jokes and cultural references go unnoticed.
