I wear wigs. Wigs dramatically change your appearance. They're easy to wear. You pop one on and pull it off. No complex application, like with makeup.
After trying dozens of wigs, I finally found three whose styles appeal to me. The first one is short in length; the second and third are long. All have slight waves. Lately, you've been seeing my third wig which was a gift from a friend. My second (worn for a year before the third) is about the same length but straighter with blond highlights. It's been a while since I wore my first wig. Recently I thought, why not bring it out of retirement and back into active duty?
I've always loved the first wig because the hair-style is attractive and easy. It suits me.
Since wigs are simple to use, I'm going to start mixing 'em up. Some outfits will have one; others another. I hope that doesn't confuse you. You're still seeing me and not my sister.
(BTW, I don't have a sister. I'm not as lucky as Megan & Nora who share the blog Two Birds. It took me a while to be able to tell them apart; they're both so damn cute.)
In the pictures below, I'm aiming for a vision of femininity. It's taken me a long time to be able to learn how to pose and stand gracefully. While I may not be fully there yet, I'm moving toward my goal, don't you think?
I think your poses are very graceful. :-D Especially the second one. It looks very natural and feminine to me.
ReplyDeleteI love this polka dot dress on you; it's very flattering and you've styled it fabulously. I also really like the idea of wearing different wigs with different outfits; it sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favourite looks of yours. Super classy. And if I remember how to phrase it correctly...you would "pass" easily wearing this.
ReplyDeleteI too love wigs although I have yet to wear one on the blog and I have yet to wear one out of the house other than for Halloween. They can be a nice surprise for your partner and a fun way of discovering different sides of yourself.

Exactly! Just imagine the looks of surprise on your family.
DeleteI even have a blue wig! In fact having a red wig partially got me thinking I wanted to start dying my hair red. I'm a natural blond.
DeleteI wanted to go down to his office once when he was still practising corporate law with a wig on...just to really freak him out! LOL I never had the guts to go through with it though.
Great dress and you look awesome. You always pose well- I could take lessons from you :)
ReplyDeleteyou look great! i love your wigs. it's so cool that you can play with different hair styles and colours and lengths!
ReplyDeleteYou look great! That dress looks amazing on you. :)
ReplyDeleteWigs are awesome and so easy to change your look with. I've never worn a full-on wig but I do occasionally sport some falls :) Love the red purse with the dress!
ReplyDeleteI like your varied wigs!! I'm longijg to try a decent 1920's finger wave style bob!
ReplyDeleteThe poses are doing great-we all struggle with the pose I think. I more often just stand there and grin which is awkward at times! X
You may not be aware of this, but everyone raised as a girl (including you) has heaps more unconscious femininity in their physical stance and movements than I will ever achieve. It's a truth I have to acknowledge.
DeleteYou look wonderful in polka dots! Very ladylike with a little sass from the bright bag. And wigs = automatic good hair day, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteI think your poses always look graceful, and I love your red bag with this outfit. Just that pop of colour is great. I want to get a wig in a bob style with a fringe, where do you purchase yours from? online by any chance.
ReplyDeleteWigs are fun I love seeing you a Brunette. It looks great on you. I also love polka dots with red bag! charming!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I thought Nora and Megan are the same person for some time, and thought I simply could not remember the name, lol
by the way, you waist line looks so ladylike in this dress! perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you. :-)
DeleteOoo! I really like this wig on you! I'm looking forward to seeing you switch it up.
ReplyDeleteLisa.
Certainly more graceful than me! And I'm going with the shorter hair.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think your posing has improved! Especially with your confidence! I love that you have the option of changing your hair at the drop of a wig. ;) Hair itself is such a hard thing, especially when you can't change color or texture without many chemicals and time. But wigs are awesome that you can try and change and bring a whole new you about.
ReplyDeleteI too could take some posing lessons from you! And even though I do NOT like polkadots for myself...I was wondering if I could borrow that dress! (the polkadot aversion goes a long way back to when I was about 4 years old. My mother INSISTED that I, being the only girl in the middle of four boys, would look like a ...GIRL! So, she put these overalls on me. Brown with white dots, and ruffles on the straps. I HATED them even at the ripe old age of 4. And distinctly once going outside and taking them right off! I probably got a spanking for doing that. Hence: I CANNOT do polka dots on myself! And, for that matter, neither can I DO ruffles. Ever!)
ReplyDeleteAmusing personal history. Thanks for sharing.
DeleteYour posing is still more graceful and feminine than mine!
ReplyDeleteThank you for saying that, buddy, but only in staged photos. In real life, you move with more grace and fluidity than I do. I carry my earlier training in masculine body-movement.
DeleteYour posing is great. I have a very hard time with posing. I think that's why I'm such a fan of candid pics of myself---no posing necessary! I love wigs, but the only wig stores around here are so pricey.
ReplyDeleteI Love this outfit! It classic, yet sexy. I love your wigs, I used to have a bright pink one in high school, it was the color of your blog! If I still had it, I would send it your way.
ReplyDeleteI like this wig! Glad you brought it back! It goes perfectly with the classic dress. And your posing looks great to me!
ReplyDeleteNice photos Ally.
ReplyDeleteI've had a few wigs over time, but I spent a little more on my last one and even had it trimmed to the shape of my face too. I braved going along to a wig shop and got some sound advice in helping choosing a wig. Once happy with my selection the lady in the shop trimmed it to shape for me.
I think you're nearly there with the look. Do you use hip and bottom shaping? That helps make body shape more feminine.
I thought about pads but they seem too artificial for me. Plus, I'm really only presenting as female here and not in real life, so there's less need to mimic a female shape. I want to be myself, not an artificial and inadequate version of someone else.
DeleteYou look so graceful and feminine. And may I just say that your accessories are gorgeous! ;)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about wear wigs. They're easier and quicker than styling everyday!
ReplyDeleteGreat posing and this is an awesome wig. I'm a fan of wigs too! So fun.
ReplyDeleteYou look extremely classy, feminine and beautiful. The outfit and hairdo are very flattering. You couldn't have done a better job putting together this ensemble...even adding the pop of red with your handbag. This one makes my Top 10 list.
ReplyDeleteFrom one wig wearer to another, I can definitely say that you know how to rock, style and make these your own in such an awesome way. If there more mid-century styles out there that weren't glaringly Halloween costume-y (there's soooo few), I'd be following your lead and switch my faux locks up more often, too. Perhaps one day the wig market will finally expand on that front and I can do just that. Thankfully for now I've got my trusty auburn curls to keep me looking the vintage part from a hair perspective.
ReplyDeleteVery elegant and timelessly feminine ensemble, I should add.
