Returning To Our Regular Station...

I'm an upbeat person.  I find optimism and a positive attitude are the best ways to combat the crushing weight of adversity.  I've had a lot of hardship in my life, so I have practice with this.

My post yesterday was hard, sad and difficult.  If you're up for confronting it, please feel free to read it.  But I don't want to depress people.  I don't want my blog to be negative.

So, today we are returning to our preferred mode -- chipper and cheerful.  I have two things to change the mood: a dumb joke and a cute picture.

Have you heard about the new restaurant on the Moon?  The food is good but there's no atmosphere...

And here's the picture.  It's from my high school yearbook (1975).  I'm on the left in the bottom photo.  Back then, that was my hairdo.  Hey, it was the 70's!

  1. You look like an actor, but I can't think of his name. You know what, life is real and it's great to see someone real behind the 'chipper and upbeat' persona.

    Have a fabulous day

  2. I like chipper and cheerful, but I always like your "other" posts because they always make me think (and ramble on in your comments for paragraphs and paragraphs. And paragraphs!)

I chuckled at the joke, by the way.

I'm always amazed by how well dressed people were in the 70's. I mean, look at the kid next to you and his sweater! I love looking at my mom's old yearbooks because everyone looks so put together. None of this sweatpants B.S. we've got going on these days.

  3. I LOVE the hair! Things don't always have to be chipper and cheerful. That would just be boring. One of the things I love most about you is the glimpses you give us on what it was like growing up as you. You never come across as "oh, poor me" (even if you are completely justified), either. You give us all a real look at your reality. For that, I thank you.

  4. I agree with Wendy, you do look like an actor. It is ok to have posts that are sad sometimes. We are all just people and people are complex and have feelings.

  5. chipper and cheerful is always good, but don't be afraid to express other emotions through you blog too, it won't depress us! :). we're all just imperfect little people who need other peoples comfort and support at times :)

  6. Thanks, guys. You made me feel better. I was second-guessing the wisdom of my last post. I care so much about your friendship that I worry about losing it by saying the wrong thing.

  7. I love positivity. Everyone has their bitchy, negative side, though -- I can definitely be a huge bitch if pushed. But I really try to be a happy, totally awesome person all the time. It's easy when you are as cool as we are.

  8. You look so dapper! Love the hair!

I echo the comments of the other bloggers - positivity is great, but it's cool that you're able to use this forum to express other emotions. We wouldn't be much of friends if we only wanted the positive all the time!

  10. Everyone's already stated how I feel beautifully. :) It's all part of you, which is why we're here. STOP WORRYIN'! ;)

You seriously do look like some pro actor in every pic like this! Did they catch you in a candid moment, or did you know the effect you'd have if you gazed off in thought? It looks like you're posing in an ad! (And I mean that as a compliment.)

  11. Thanks, Jen. I wasn't aware a photo was being taken until I saw this months later in the Yearbook.

  13. Your last post was thought-provoking, and beautifully written, of course. Just because some folks like me couldn't work a a suitable comment to post does not make it any less worth reading!

  17. Thank you so much for your comments on that post that was really depressing. I'm most startled by how many people say something similar has happened to them. Its a sad state of affairs, but by talking about it and acknowledging it in thoughtful conversation, hopefully it changes.
