An Amazing Post

My friend Jen is a lovely person.  She's compassionate, helpful and has a wonderful spirit.  Everything about her is nice.

Jen started a blog recently as part of a website she created to help young women with building confidence and self-esteem.  I admire her work.

Today, Jen put up a post in which she talks about her personal history and how it led her to care about this topic.  The post is amazing.

Jen explains she felt unattractive and overweight for many years, that she had a troubled early marriage, and that she has struggled with insecurities.  She exposes her vulnerabilities in an effort to help herself and others realize that we're all beautiful people deserving of love.  We all deserve to be happy.

I have rarely seen a blog post as serious, as meaningful, and as admirable as this one.  You will find it here.  I urge you to take a look.

  2. Wow. She certainly bared it all. I'm sure there are lots of women in the world who could benefit from such openness. And such honesty.

  7. Shy, don't have time to read this now, but when I get home; I certainly will. I still am shocked at how we hold ourselves to unreal and impossible standards! And it seems like there's always an outcry, and yet, even those who rail against it often perpetuate it. Look at even the most popular and successful blogs....very thin and beautiful women....with the emphasis on THIN. I'm not blaming them; why should we hate on thin women? It's not about heavy vs. thin; it's about accepting yourself how you are AND being appreciated for it. The real female form is so devalued and underappreciated. And we're doing it to ourselves!!! The men in our lives actually love us with some meat on our bones! It's like we dress for other women and we just can't be TOO thin. Well, sorry for my soapboxing....this really hits home for me after spending a lifetime dieting and "wishing" I was something that was actually impossible for me to be. Great post and how wonderful of you to highlight this sweet woman!!! ~Serene

  8. Thank you all so much for such a positive response. I suspected that other women and girls would be able to get something out of it, but it was still sort of nerve-wracking to share it so openly! I don't know why, but I was so nervous hitting that "publish" button. I really appreciate the kind words. :)

And thank you, my friend, for sharing it here. <3
