I love party dresses. Their sparkle, their dramatic designs, their larger-than-life attitude. I've always dreamed about going to a party in one. Since that isn't an option, the next best thing for me is simply to wear one and let the fantasy float in my head.
I also love bargains. I don't spend much on clothes so I was thrilled last week when I walked into my local thrift-store and saw a sign -- "Last Day 50% Off Sale." That was an omen!
A few minutes later, I spotted a glittery party dress in my favorite color (pinkish-purple). It even has rhinestones!
The dress is a little short (because, truthfully, it's too small for me) but I handle that with dark tights. The outfit is also a showcase for my new ballet-flats which are kinda cute. ($15; Payless.)
Here are some pictures. I want to thank Marilou (whose blog is Twenty York Street) for giving me this pretty bracelet for Christmas. Wasn't that sweet of her?!
What a fun party dress! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a gorgeous colour. Reminds me of a dress a family friend gifted to me made of velvet of this same colour. It was the most exquisite dress I had ever owned but sadly my mother did not let me wear it because it was not appropriate for our culture. Oh well........you look gorgeous in yours. :) I especially love how you paired it with those ballet flats. :) Nice contrast
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
Ow ow you look beautiful! Come visit ML and me in Ottawa and you can wear that dress to a party with us! I love your makeup- very subtle yet striking! xo Emily
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic dress! And the adorable flats. It makes me want to steal the combination xD! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteFantastic outfit! And I love the golden accessories and the sweet flats and pink eyeshadow!! Way to go Ralph and I do wish I had your legs - WOW!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a pretty dress! It's fun to feel so feminine and that's definitely a very feminine look for you! Wonderful! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteShy, you look lovely - I even called my husband over to look at your sparkly dress and he said, "That looks great!" You just glow!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tinfoils Tiaras, your make-up is just right.
What . . . those are from Payless! Awesome! I would so love to go thrifting with you! We'd have a ball. I love that shade of lipstick on you btw!

Okay, I think you definitely have better thrift stores to frequent than I do. Although I've been appreciating my recent thrifted finds...they're NOTHING like this!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was ten, I had a blue dress very similar to this, but it didn't have the rhinestones. 10-year-old Ashley is mighty jealous!
Awww, so pretty! I love the collar, and how you have accessorized it. I love party dresses too. They are such a perfect fantasy.
ReplyDeleteOh, and good question on my blog earlier. I have so many favorite Oscar winners, but A Streetcar Named Desire, Gone With the Wind, On the Waterfront, and Doctor Zhivago come to mind first!
OMG !! You look Beautiful ! I Love this dress. I also love how you have accessorized this ensemble.
ReplyDeleteThat Dress is so cute! I would totaly wear it myself :) Beautifull outfit!
ReplyDeleteMy apologies that the eye makeup didn't work out. It's a shame that we can't have a team of 5 makeup artists at our every beck and call to rush over and spend a half hour applying the best and most expensive makeup to our faces with the talent and abilities they all seem to possess.
ReplyDeleteLame.
P.S. I am loving that color on you. It really compliments your complexion.

Such a pretty dress & necklace. Getting clothes on sale is the best.
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely, dah-ling! Your selections only get better over time. You are party-ready with this look. The contrast of the flats is perfect, your makeup is well-done, and I think you're sparkling from within as much as the dress!
ReplyDeletethe best thing is like are the string of pearls....i got weakness for pearls!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute dress! I have a weakness for sparkles too.
ReplyDeleteAnd the ballet flats are great! I have an awesome pair from Payless too :)
Aw, so cute! If you're concerned about the length, I would just add a layer underneath - a simple black skirt should do the trick.
ReplyDeleteI hardly do actual sparkles but I like gold patterns woven into the fabric (hence my faible for Indian silk - by the way, I bought it as a dress and made it into a skirt, I have one sari but I wouldn't touch it with needle & scissors!).
Cheers,
poet
My first thought was
ReplyDelete"very pretty!" - since you are sitting down ( i like the pose too!!) I can't really see how long/short the dress is.
However I can see it it a great find... plus your accessories are extremely classy :)
I love the dress. And your makeup and hair are pretty great here too. But the joy in your face is my favorite part of all these pics.

You should join Twitter. I don't know what the hell I am doing, and it seems to be working out okay for me.

no kidding ?? that dress!? You had such an elegant taste, the velvet and rhinestone are so classy! I love it! I also don't spend much on clothes, I always go for "sale"...with that I can even buy more items and save.
ReplyDeleteI love that color and the sparkles on you... and you look so happy!
ReplyDeleteWhile I love the bracelets with this, I think the necklace and shoes distract from the gorgeous dress. Don't drown your dress, its too pretty!
this dress is fabulous! you know i love any and all sparkles, but this is tops- that color is just perfect on you!
ReplyDelete<3 mode.
