We Be Giants

There's another blogger who is as tall as I am.  Her name is Gracey and she's a friend of mine.  Gracey has a fun blog on which she displays her talent for dressing well.

Gracey and I are tall (6'0") but still within normal range.  For comic effect, Gracey calls her blog "Fashion For Giants."  We joke about being ginormous.

Last year, I met Gracey in person when she visited New York.  She was as nice and charming in person as she is online.  Gracey is one of those friends whom you cherish.  She's a wonderful person.

So why am I gushing over her like a schoolgirl?  Well, to explain the following photos.  Gracey gave me two presents, both of which I'm showing here.  The first one is something she calls a "lady-tie."  Others call it a pussy bow or mini-scarf.  I've always admired this item and, after reading that on my blog, Gracey found one for me.  Then she found another.  This is the second one she sent.  I love its pretty colors and traditionally feminine vibe.

The second gift is a necklace with the symbol of Gracey's home-state, Oregon.  I'm embarrassed to admit how little I know about geography.  During our meetup, I referred to Oregon as being in the Midwest (like Iowa).  Gracey was kind enough not to correct me.  I later learned Oregon is on the West Coast,  above California.  It actually abuts the Pacific Ocean.  Who knew?

  1. I always imagined you to be shorter than 6'...I don't know why...

I am 5'3". The oldest and shortest of my siblings (5 of us total) and shorter by a long shot. My sister is 5'10", one brother is 6'0", one is 6'1" and the other is a ginormous 6'7"!! I wouldn't have it any other way though, I like being short - much easier to wear 5" heels and not feel too tall! haha!

    1. It's good to be your size. A girlfriend of mine who's your height buys lots of her clothes in the boy's dept; they're really cheap.

  2. I love the floral silk tie! Gracey has great taste. It is the perfect colours for you.

Nice to meet up with people like that via the internet.

That is too funny about the geography. My husband and I were watching a show tonight that takes place in Milwaukee and we were trying to figure out where that was exactly. Sad. Then again so many people have no idea where Toronto is : )

  4. I love that scarf and blouse! I know where Oregon is, although I've never been there - I have a pretty good handle on US geography (my grandad used to be able to recite all the states in alphabetical order!).

  5. You look lovely in your lady tie! The Oregon necklace is very cool. I live on the west coast too and I love the state of Oregon and have been a few times. You must go someday. I love Powell's Books in Portland. It is my idea of heaven. I am also a big Gracey fan. I fear I might sometimes come across like a creepy stalker because I've been reading her blog much longer than I have been commenting on it. I'm a bit over 5'9" so I identify as tall, though you two have me beat.

  7. That mint green top looks awesome on you and the necklace matches it fine :) !
I have always been considered as a giant by others, but as a stump inside the family - I'm 172 cm tall but all my relatives are much taller O_o. And actually I'm just a little bit taller than an average finnish woman.

    1. No, it's true. Most of us are ignorant about geography. When we go to war, we have to look at a map to see where the fighting is.

  9. Love the bow, it's so pretty and perfect! By the way you should definitely take a trip to Oregon. It's a spectacular place and has amazing roads for your bike!

  10. Such a cute tie! It looks lovely.
I'm tall, 5ft 10 which is far above average for a girl but I often wear heels which pushes my height up to six foot. I love being tall x

  11. I'm a bit horrid with geography :(
I really like your styling here... The hair seems more casual or modern or something and I'm digging the gold hoops and neck scarf. I used to wear that exact same look all the time and still love it. (I only stopped wearing scarves because as I got older they made me hot--Florida heat is no joke--but, now that I'm in Asheville, scarves can make a comeback!)

  17. Ooh, Gracey has great taste! What wonderful colors for you. I was totally digging the pink blouse on you, then it occurred to me I might have picked that one out. >.>

... at least I have consistent taste.

  21. What a great pussy bow- I love it! And I've heard that Gracey is even more charming in person than she is on her blog- which is considerable already. I've also just learned she's in Portland a mere jaunt from my home. I must make a trip to meet this GIANT of a charmer.

  22. Such wonderfully lovely gifts - a gal (or guy) can never have too many cute accessories in my books. Indeed, Oregon is out here on the West Coast chilling just two states below British Columbia. It's one of the North American travel destinations that I most hope to get in my lifetime (in no small part because Portland is something of a massive mecca for all things vintage).

Wishing you a stellar weekend, dear Ally!

  23. These are beautiful photos. I love both of the outfits and the colors look so pretty on you. Gracey does seem like a sweetheart. I live just above her...in Seattle WA. Pacific Northwesterners we are. But I am a transplant from the midwest. :)

  25. OMG! You look lovely in both of them!! I I LOVE state necklaces! Too cute!

My friend Stevie also loves Boston and is planning a trip there this fall. Right now I really want to take a trip in the fall, and it looks like our options might be Portland with Kyle's brother and his wife, Boston with Stevie, or somehow try to swing New York. I think it is awesome that Boston is your favorite city!

I have a Friend who once thought Hawaii and Alaska were somewhere out in the Pacific Ocean just outside of Cali due to the Maps from School which always showed them to be right there, off the Coast you know! *LOL*
