Vintage Valor

Prompted by my last post on a time-capsule, I've been thinking about the past.  And how fun it is to resurrect earlier fashion.  That contemplation led to today's outfit.

I own seamed stockings which create a wonderful vintage look.  I also have an adorable retro-style dress, given to me by my sweet friend Gracey.  (Thank you, Gracey!)  Together with the stockings, the green dress evokes the 1940's, which was an interesting period in fashion.

What do you think of this outfit?  Do you ever use vintage pieces or style in your outfits?

  3. This is DIVINE! I adore the colour of this dress. The majority of my wardrobe is vintage and I really enjoy mixing up the pieces, especially clashing colours and patterns (I don't like "ordinary" outfits!!!)

  6. I really love the seamed stockings. And that dress suits you incredibly well. The colour, the cut--it's incredibly flattering and beautiful and classic, but not at all boring :)

  7. Love the dress...color and style, so pretty and feminine. I also love seamed stockings, and wear them for special occasions. I never fail to get compliments on them. They evoke a different time when dressing up was important for so many social events, even a trip into NYC! Love the heels, too!

  8. AAAHHHH!!!! I love it! You just commented on my post that you were wearing vintage and I hurried on over to take a peek! You dress is darling and you're right, it definitely evokes the 1940s. The seamed stockings are perfect and I LOVE the color. And you know about as much as me when it comes to wearing hats. The hat you saw was the first one I ever owned and I didn't get that until this year. You should try your hand at one! I love mine!

  13. Woah, amazing find by Gracey and gorgeous styling by you! I like how it's sophisticated but with a youthful spirit that is such a signature of your style.

I admire ladies who wear green. It looks a little darker than chartreuse. I don't know if I've seen quite that color before. Definitely a lovely statement piece. :D

  16. alsdkjfalskdjfasldj....Seamed stockings rock! Such an awesome touch to any outfit.

Also, I'm basically just a big dork. I'm super nerdy, and even though I'm 32 years old, I'm still a kid at heart. I think my sense of humor reflects that. :)))

  22. I love these stockings. I remember watching old movies with my grandparents and seeing movie stars in such stockings. My fear would be that they would move and the line would shift during the day.
Your dress is so elegant as well.

  25. Vintage touches are the Best! I really love that dress, what a fabulous colour. I have to admit your tights have my heart. When I was still taking ballet I always specifically chose tights with a lovely seam because I love them so much!

  26. Wow I want a dress like this! The colour and shape are really lovely and of course this outfit is a favourite of mine because its vintage inspired. This also reminds me that I want to get a pair of stockings like that... The 1940s is an interesting decade in fashion. There's so much focus on the 1950s I often can't picture the unique elements of the 40s.

  27. Definitely pulling this off! I love vintage outfits, maybe it's because of my love for tights...they are just wonderful. Some vintage glam sunglasses added to this and a big floppy hat would make this out of this world : D

  29. Dear Ally, this is, bar none, my favourite outfit that you've ever shared with us. I know that might seem slightly obvious given that it has a vintage elements to it, but I love it for far more than just that. It is strikingly elegant, colourful in the most pleasing of ways, wildly feminine, and just as timeless as the day is long. Gorgeous styling!

  36. As you know love vintage, particularly the 40s and 50s, I usually try to put something of that in an outfit. While I'm not sure on the shade of the dress, the actual dress itself is lovely and fits you well
