A Saturday In August

Are you having fun today?  I hope so.

I'm taking Robin into NYC today for our twelfth anniversary.  Among other treats, I'm going to show her the fabulous ice bar -- which will be soothing relief in 80-degree heat -- and visit the unusual High Line Park.  The High Line was built four years ago on an *elevated* railway track.  Fallen into disuse, the city converted the track into a park with plants, flowers, benches and a walkway.  I'm eager to explore it because you see the city from a high angle up in the air that is previously unknown to me.

I appreciate your feedback and suggestions on my last "outfit" post.  Granted, there was very little outfit in it!  I put a lot of effort into that post, much of which went unnoticed.  For example, I spent an hour doing makeup -- but I guess when you're not wearing any clothes, people don't look at your face. :)

I've since played with your favorite image in that collection and tried to enhance it, ironically by removing color from it.  Here's the result...

  2. I love how this looks in black and white - very elegant!
I really want to see the Highline. It wasn't done the last time I was in NYC, but I'd like to see it on my next visit.

  3. I actually did notice your make up but forgot to mention it ... I loved the way your make up enhanced the gorgeous necklace and also fitted perfectly with the whole look!!!

  4. Oh wow! The black and white really does create an awesome effect. I didn't even consider suggesting playing around with photo after-effects. I think the black and white really enhanced the whole picture! You're beautiful and you rock, Ally.

  5. Congratulations on your anniversary!

I think the black and white effect adds to the pinup aspect. If you don't mind me asking, do you use dual light sources? I see a shadow to each side of you and I was wondering if softening that somehow to make a more ambient light would also enhance the mood of your shots.

    1. Yes, I'm using two spotlights. Your suggestion makes sense. I need to lessen the harshness of my lighting. I don't have real photographic supplies, however, and would need to buy some.

    2. Understood! If cost is an issue, you can check out paper lantern lamps at Target or the like. I have one for my living room that is 6' tall, three bulbs in a long lantern. It does great softened light effects.

  6. I really love the way it looks in black and white! This one and the second one (the one in which you had shoes on) were my absolute favourite. You definitely can see the effort you put in your make-up and I like how the pose enphasizes your beautiful legs :)

  7. Is Robin your wife? I'm guess I'm too new to know much about your personal life like that. If so, happy anniversary! If not... happy anniversary!

  8. black and white version is so elegant! Sorry for lack of attention to anything but your legs. But (!) I wanted to mention that if your makeup wasn't very pretty or matchy to the outfit I guess we would have notice. I mean sometimes out of attention means it's fine.

Happy anniversary to you and Robin! I'm sure she's very happy with you Ralph
