The impetus for the ensemble was simply my attraction to its pieces. I like the dress (bought Sunday for $10 at my local boutique). I love the shoes which were a gift from a friend. And I'm a big fan of colored tights.
Normal dresses look perilously short on me because of my height (6') and I've discovered that colored tights make those dresses acceptable. In pantyhose or bare leg, short dresses look provocative -- which is not always the perception I want to create.
What do you think? Do you see these items as having a retro look?
YES! I love the 60's and I think this is just great, the colors are my some of my favorites too! lol, I love the comment about the tights, whenever I want to wear a dress to work that seems short, I just wear tights.
ReplyDeleteThe 60's was such a fun era for fashion, and I love that you channeled it here with this outfit. That shade of blue is so pretty on you! Hope that you've been doing well; so sorry I haven't been to visit and comment lately!

Welcome back, Callie!
DeleteLove this! Those shoes are absolutely wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I'm so excited to see these shoes again! You styled them beautifully :) I'm loving that dress too!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is adorable!!! and those shoes are super cute--I love how you've styled it!!
ReplyDeleteVery 60's- I love it!
ReplyDeletethe colours works beautifully together and mary-jane! I love those shoes, the mini was a 60's staple, simple shapes and bold colours and the shoes have a vintage look, yep, it is a retro feel! x
ReplyDeletei think it definitely has a retro vibe yet still modern at the same time.

The shoes are especially adorable, and yeah, as another six-foot woman, I hear you on just how alarmingly short hemlines can be. Which is exactly why I wear opaque tights so often. :)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute '60s!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I'm not familiar with 60s fashion (and can you believe "vintage" is 1993 and before now??!) but I love the color blocking you did in this outfit. It is sophisticated and timeless.
ReplyDelete... I just noticed your pendant. May I inquire about it? It looks so lovely from the picture, but I can't see a ton of detail.
DeleteI'll add a detailed photo. It depicts eggs in a nest. It was a gift from a blogger-friend.
DeleteThanks Ally! Ooh, it is absolutely gorgeous.
DeleteLove the outfit, especially the blue hose with the blue skirt. But do you do eyeliner? Because I think you need to make your eyes pop!
ReplyDeleteThanks doll,
The Glamorous Housewife
Funny you should mention that because that's exactly what I was thinking. I just didn't have time to do much makeup.
DeleteI'm getting experience with eye-shadow but have trouble figuring out how to apply eyeliner. My upper eye-lids extend over the top of my eyeline (it's a genetic feature, similar to the way Asian people look) so eyeliner isn't visible on the top of my eyeline. When I put it on just the bottom, it looks odd. I need to figure this out. I *want* to wear eyeliner but need someone skilled at makeup to show me how.
You may find makeup tutorials for single lid or monolids useful. Many of my Asian friends swear by 'em because makeup tips often don't cover what to do for your type of eyelid.
DeleteTotally cute. The tights and shoes (and how they match with the lower half of the dress) are what really make this feel retro.
ReplyDeleteA retro look indeed! The shoes are a great addition, and of course your poses.
ReplyDeleteI do think it has a retro look, especially with those cute shoes! Tights are a god-send for helping out short dresses feel more modest.
ReplyDeletevery pretty shoes! I love the colours here and short dress is very sexy. and retro yeah
ReplyDeleteYes definitely! I think the shoes really do it, they're gorgeous. I'm tall too and often use tights or leggings to bridge the gap between where my dress ends and where it should end, if you know what I mean. xx
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteThe tights are exactly perfect for both colour and degree of opacity, excellent look! Thanks for putting in the detail shot of that beautiful nest eggs pendant too.
ReplyDeletethe shoes definitely give me that vibe! the dress reminds me of a bridesmaid dress i wore a few years ago--i loved it!
ReplyDeleteI think these shoes give the look a retro vibe.
ReplyDeleteI like the tone of your pantyhose with the dress, i'd wear it like that.
Yes very retro indeed. I think the shoes make that statement the most.
ReplyDeleteDaphne.
The shoes are really special with their little bows and white trim. I like the modern elements with the vintage vibe.
ReplyDeleteam loving the shoes you have got on!!! and you look classy!!

Those blue tights are amazing! I love the shoes, the while detailing makes them just perfect :)
ReplyDeleteI've been on a serious blue kick lately so this outfit is totally up my ally!
ReplyDeleteThe solid two-color dress is very Mod. The drapey bodice looks more 40s or 50s and the bottom more 60s. Interesting piece. Super jealous of those gorgeous shoes and hosiery. Definitely a vintage feel to the look!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully sophisticated color palette - and the white details of the shoes are the icing on the cake!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about that, but you're right! Colored tights do help, especially being near the same color as the dress, to elongate the length. I really love this color too! Royal blue tights would be so much fun to wear too!
