Dancing In The Street

I had a pleasant, unexpected experience today.

I own two motorcycles, one of which is the speedy sportbike shown above.  (The photo was taken last year at the racetrack where I rode it up to 140 mph.)  I love how my Yamaha handles and I ride it whenever I can.

On my way home from work, I suddenly saw another sportbike in my rear-view mirror.  I noticed it was being operated by a girl.  A cute girl in her late-20's.  Our bikes were similar and we were both wearing good protective gear.

I know some twisty roads in my area and enjoy riding them at a spirited pace.  They're a challenge when taken at high speed.  We were on a straight main road when the girl showed up, so I wondered if she was up for some fun.  I turned off that road onto a series of side-roads.  I was happy to see her follow my lead.

Knowing the curves well, I leaned my bike over and twisted the throttle.  In my mirror, I saw she was right behind me.  I pushed harder and she stayed with me like glue.  We were riding in perfect synch, both navigating tough roads with skill and poise.  Eventually, the roads ran out and we were back on a main road.  With a wave, she turned and took off.

A delightful dance in the street.

Have you ever been surprised by an unexpected partner joining you in fun?

  1. that is so cool... I love that she was playful and joined you... people seem so careful these days they forget to break out and be spontaneous in life.. I love how you also gave her the opportunity!!

I will come down for a ride sometime for sure.. would love to go fast on a bike like that!! ")

    cheers

  2. What a great experience! I study a martial art, and one of the things I value about my studies is that it allows me to play with other adults. There's a lovely flow of joy, connection, and playfulness at times, particularly when practicing with people I've known for years and years. :)

  6. Nice :D! I have been riding a motorbike only few times in my life and I don't like at all driving a car, so the only time that sort of thing has happened was when I was a teen and 2 younger boys suddenly wanted to take a bicycle race that ended up in a bush.

  7. Fabulous fun, I love seeing motorbikes elegantly swoop past cars on the motorway. As I sit there trapped in a car queue I can't help thinking "motorbikes, that is where freedom is at...a two wheeled awesome power motorized steed :)

  9. Such fun to dance like that.

I used to drive a 3litre Ford and one day on my way home from a friend an guy in a similar Ford decided that he would challenge me ... I decided to slow down and wave when he had to take the offramp on the highway and he was SHOCKED to see that he had been beaten by a girl!!!! I LOVED the look on his face!

  10. Oh how fun!! I haven't had that experience yet. I'm guessing your Yamaha handles similar to my Suzuki VStrom.

Haven't been riding much either due to rain - not the sprinkling kind, more like the flood water kind! >sad face<

  11. Ha! How fun! Wish I could've seen this spectacle. I would've assumed you were together though and hadn't just "met up" like that.

  13. Did this seriously happen? It sounds like some sort of cute-meet from a chick flick :) Sounds like a lot of fun :)

Also, the thought of riding a motorcycle at 140 mph is terrifying!!! I about peed my pants when I took a ride with a friend in college and we hit 80 on the (perfectly straight) highway, haha.

  14. Oh my gosh!! Why do I find this so super crazy sexy and fun? This sounds like such a fun, serendipitous experience. Awe how cool. I once had a dream in junior high that I owned a speed bike and 2 of my best friends and I, we sped all through Kohala, our little town.

  18. I didn't know you had a motorcycle, that's so cool. My brother in law has one and I always think it must be such a skill to have. This is such a fun and sweet experience. I've never had anything similar happen but it would be great if it did. Things like this really brighten the day. Thanks for sharing.

  19. How amazing!! That's one of those very special moments that make life worth living.

My hubby and I often work in sync. One of the reasons I love him is sometimes we're so in tune we don't have to speak. It's a beautiful thing to turn around to ask someone to do something, and it's already done the way you wanted. Or it's done without saying a word.

I also work the same with my boss. She and I are totally on the same brain.

Of course, your experience was a bit more magical and more thrilling!

  21. Oh my gosh that sounds like a dream! I just got all goose pimply reading and thinking about that with the shared connection between two strangers and the adrenaline rush of riding a motorcycle (I've never been on one so it gives me butterflies to think about it in a fascinated yet nervous way). How lucky you are! So awesome. And how bad ass you look in that photo.

  22. How awesome! I love those chance meetings - whether its a fellow thrifter and you help each other on your missions, someone in line beside you, finding someone that makes something you already enjoy better always makes me feel less alone in the world!

  24. What an awesome story! And she sounds like a lot of fun. Although I don't own a motorcycle, I've ridden in them many times. I love the way they feel! My brother has an R1 and he loves that thing. Saves on gas and it's easy to park lol.

Thank you for your comment on my blog :) It was fun meeting Amber. She's a sweetie!

    1. The R1 is a brother of my FZ1. Same engine, only my bike has a more relaxed seating position. Yamaha markets it as "a R1 for old guys"!
