Shifting Into Fall

My favorite part of Fall is that it allows us to wear colored-tights.  I love tights and the panoply of colors available is remarkable.

I bought the dress shown below because, while simple, it presents lots of opportunities for styling.  You guys have taught me many ways to improve outfits with belts, scarves, jewelry and tights.  My first attempt at styling the dress is a little disappointing, but I didn't have a lot of time and energy tonight after arriving home from a hard week of work.  Please suggest other ideas for making this dress shine.  All suggestions welcome!

  1. I'm excited for the return of tights weather too (mostly so I don't have to shave my legs).

I like this dress and I understand where you were going with the yellow belt and blue necklace, but I'm just not sure it's quite right. I think a wide belt, yes, but black. And maybe a yellow necklace?

  2. This is a pretty dress! Since you like colored tights, what about a pair of bright blue? That would be fun! If I styled it to wear, I would also do a black cardigan or blazer. Belt the cardigan and keep your yellow belt and do knee high boots! Khaki would look nice too. Love your bracelets! Heather

  4. What a great foundational dress. My first thought was that a pair of black tights with the black heels would make your legs look a mile long. I like Style Journey's idea too that a cardigan or jacket of some sort could be interesting. Do you have knee high boots?

  5. I think a great black slip peeking out would be soo cute. Add a fun vest, layer a cardigan over top. I like the idea of blue with it.The yellow belt was a fun pairing. I love yellow as an accent color. Seems like everyone is busting out the plaid for Autumn.

  6. I was going to suggest wearing a short sleeve white button down under it, but I'm going to guess you get to wear a lot of those in your day job (though having seen your tie cast offs on Megan's blog, it wouldn't surprise me if you had a rainbow full of shirts!). I'd love to see a fuller black skirt under it to give it more of a 50s vibe. If it's a frilly black skirt, counterbalancing it with a black leather jacket (which I'm going to guess as a motorcycle enthusiast you might have one or two)

  7. Green is a great colour to compliment red!! The yellow belt is also cool! I like Cara's idea of wearing a fuller skirt over it (monochromatic) and use it as a top! The jewellery are too elegant for a playful dress like this - use something silly/girly/kitchy (like my necklace let's say?). And white would make it look like a school uniform! (socks over tights and boots?). In all, a very nice outfit - I think the only thing that sticks out is the necklace. You're definitely on the right track! Kisses :)

  8. We would change your short necklace for a long one :)
Maybe you can try a black belt too.

  10. Looking good babe. I love the yellow belt with this dress. I'd trade out the red tights for something else though. Maybe black ones, and then a bigger bolder necklace.

i love tights too but its SO SO HOT here its almost a sin to wear them. Well at least a penitence.
I think i would try this dress with a long strand of pearls.

  13. i think black tights might be better. the red ones take away from the boldness of the dress. if they are a little bit sheer the better i think bc then the shoe wont get lost with the legs. :)

  14. I totally need to score some red tights for fall!

  15. Those red tights are AWESOME - but I think I have to agree and say I would like black tights with that dress so the two don't feel like they're competing. I do really like the contrast of the yellow belt!

I'm eager for fall now too and really want some teal and cobalt tights! I never could find ones I liked last year, so it's my goal again this time around.
