I shop at discount and thrift stores where the selections are unpredictable. I've gotten in the habit of visiting them whenever I have spare time hoping there will be a gem hiding in the racks. That hunting paid off this weekend when I discovered a gorgeous dress. I love its feminine ruffles and shape.
The dress is a little plain so I styled it up a bit. Any comments or suggestions?
je trouve cette robe magnifique, j'aime beaucoup
ReplyDeleteMerci!
ReplyDeleteLovely dress. I want one!. I especially like how you styled your wig and make up, very lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like the color of the jacket and dress together, but I think the stockings are a bit dark. Otherwise, it's a fun little outfit and I think you look cute. Of course, I have NO fashion sense, so take that with a grain of salt, okay? :-)
ReplyDeleteOoh. I like it! It has a 1920's vibe to it. How much was it? I've been meaning to stop at Savers lately to see if I can pick up some kind of cheap, oversized belt. I only want it for one outfit I have in mind, so it seems silly to pay full-price for it when I could find one that would do the trick, only for much less.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sara! Coming from an artist, such words mean a lot to me.
ReplyDeleteAshley, the dress was $25 at Marshall's.
ReplyDeleteTM, I'm wearing a scarf, not a jacket. I had trouble finding anything to go with the dress, so I played with a scarves until I found one that looked good. And I wanted to wear white tights but other bloggers keep discouraging me from doing that: they say only nurses wear them. :(
ReplyDeleteoooh! I love the dress! and you have to be careful with the white tights, you might end up looking either very young or very old, but gwen stefani often rocks them with "darker" styled clothes and it totally works. i like this style of dress with the black you chose.
ReplyDeleteI Love this dress ! I have been looking for a skirt with ruffles like that. You look Great. I think a purple cardi and some pearls would look Great with this dress.
ReplyDeleteYou have a knack for this and didn't even know it! :) I love the contrasts of the gold and black. And yes, it does look kinda 20s and yet still modern. I like the black tights best with this ensemble, but I wear white tights and think they're great! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove that dress. I got a similar one from H&M. With the ruffles I love to pair it with leather & rocker accessories/ maybe a bit of "Tom-boy". And funky pumps. You look great btw.
ReplyDeleteI wish you were here to go shopping with me this weekend! At the end of the month I am going to my veterinary clinic's (we are good friends with everyone who works there) holiday party and the theme is 80's prom! I would love your eye for style!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely find!! I am jealous, I sooo need to make more time for thrifting!! I want to so badly!
ReplyDeleteI love the black tights with it too. Black tights are always perfect!
XX
Try it with a wider waist cinching black belt, too :) I always like those dresses (and tops like that) but they never look right on me. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteGreat eye you've got. I love your blog and your vision!
ReplyDeleteLeon
Great find! And I love how you styled it.
ReplyDeleteAs far as suggestions go, maybe a belt over the dress and cardigan? A black one perhaps. Like my studded one: http://bearsandbunting.blogspot.com/2010/04/wait-wait-waitsmart-and-casual.html
Rather than black or white tights, try nude fishnets! :) The texture is fun and it's more dimensional.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Freeda!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is very flapper-y. You look lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous! I love how you styled this and it would also look great with boots and a belt for a more rocker feel! Thrift shopping is my favourite- it's so fun to find hidden treasures!
ReplyDeleteGo with a different type of necklace... this one competes too hard for attention. How about a really long pearl or chain instead... keep the flapperish look going. Plus it would enhance rather than compete with all the freat ruffles.
ReplyDeleteI like the shawl. I agree w/Freeda on the fishnets. Or get subtler colors. The world is wider than black, white, and nude... and if I had your legs, i'd wear them every day!
I think you wore it well.
ReplyDeleteI think something red would also look lovely.
I adore that dress - what a show stopper!
ReplyDeleteI would style it very "mod" with coloured tights (teal?) and a big wrist cuff and fabulous earrings.
Great ideas, guys!
ReplyDeleteNice dress. It fits perfectly. I really like the way you styled it here. You could also put a long cardi and belt it with tights and boots.

Tracy
