New Dress

Some days you just get lucky.  I walked into my local thrift-store today and saw a sign on the door: "50% Off Everything."  Wow!

A few moments later, I spotted a cute dress that's much nicer than what they usually carry.  With the half-off discount, it cost only $15!  Let me know what you think.

In addition to adding some jewelry, I tried a new makeup look.  A lighter pink lipstick and brown eyeshadow that matches the dress.  My makeup skill has advanced from atrocious to merely bad, so don't feel the need to lie.  I'm just curious about colors.

Thanks!

  1. Oh, this is pretty! I have been very into brown lately. I like the shimmery top and full skirt. You look lovely.

I am always such a dork when it comes to make-up. It's really not a big part of my style. I always try to go for a "natural" look I guess.

  2. Cute dress! I think the nude shoes were a great choice too, leaves the focus on the dress.

Makeup-wise, I think you need more eyelashes, but gentler eyebrows. Try more of a taupe eyebrow pencil or a powder than straight up brown pencil.

  3. I love the dress, its so elegant!
Your eyeshadow matches your dress perfectly, and the lipstick is lovely, so I think you need to give yourself more credit in the make-up department!

  4. love the dress... and I would maybe do a contrast color for your eyes to make them pop more. Its hard to see what color your eyes are.. hazel/green? perhaps some purple liner or a color that compliments your eye color would stand out. and yes, some discrete eyelashes would be amazing!! You are really progressing with this and I love how you are asking for feedback! Me, I am no makeup queen myself so by no means profess to be any expert. I would also ask Angie at EveryoneLoves Lipstick.. she rocks in the makeup department!!! xoxo J

  11. That is a lovely dress! I like your make-up - you always look so nicely done. I would also recommend a softer-looking brow (use an eyebrow brush (or a cleaned-off old mascara wand) to brush them out after your colour), and a bit more eyeliner, especially on the top lid.

I think that dress is vintage 70s/early 80s.

  15. THIS IS MY FAVORITE LOOK ON YOU.
It´s fabulous, so ladylike and well put together.
You totally pulled this look off head to toe !
That shade of brown looks really good on you.

  16. I just love the dress, and your happy, ladylike pose! I agree about softening the brows... and I would change the lipstick to a warmer color to better complement the brown dress. The pink is great for cooler colors, like pink, blue, purple....

Otherwise, you look fantastic! The sleeve placement really deemphasizes your shoulders, and your legs look fantastic.

  17. I adore shimmery browns!! This is a gorgeous and very feminine dress...I think the bow really makes it! You are really becoming good at finding really amazing deals that work for your style.

I think Freeda and Sheila were spot-on with their makeup suggestions, and I wouldn't say your skills/application is bad at all, but those things will help improve. I'd also like this color dress with a darker reddish lip!

I bet it helps having your toenails painted when you're presenting as male - even if no one sees it, YOU still know! ;)

  18. I really LOVE the dress and the shoes!! And the pearls and the make up and the smile!! One point though: I think that you should have added some depth and volume to your eyes so that you can balance the shiny lipstick. The way I see it, it's all about proportions and balance. If your lips are shiny and bright than you should make your eyes to appear darker and more distant/not as "out there" as the bottom half of your face. You could have done that by adding brown eyeliner under your bottom lid and a dark brown eyeshadow into the crease! Does that make sense?? (again, sorry for the long post - I can't seem to help myself!)

  19. Good advice, dimi. I recognize how smart your ideas when I hear them; I just can't come up with them on my own. I really appreciate your suggestions!
