My Second Dress

Here is the second new dress I bought last week.  It isn't special and it isn't stylish, but I like it.  I like it 'cause it's my favorite color and 'cause it's traditionally feminine.

With your lifetime of experience, you're probably bored with ordinary, traditional clothes but they have a place in my heart.  I hope you'll indulge my affection for them.

I try to learn from every experience.  Are there any lessons here?  Any ways to improve this look?

  1. It's cute! I find myself wishing the pink and black parts were reversed... darker on top and lighter on the bottom would decrease emphasis on your larger top half, and visually add bulk to your hips.

That's why so many women (me included) wear colored tops and dark bottoms.

  2. I like the look, but I would add a statement pin because thats such a fun way to accessorize a pretty dress.

  3. It is a simple and chic look. May be you could accessorize is with a long beaded strong or a pin as the person above me suggested! :)

  5. LD, I never knew you could use color that way. Having this proportion-problem, I'm going to do what you recommend. Thanks!

Kallie and tanvii, that's a great idea. I knew the dress needed accessorizing but couldn't come up with anything. You supplied the answer. Danke!

Julieta, I'm glad you noticed the body-movement. When I'm happy, I can't hide it.

  6. I think a long necklace would look good with it. And maybe a little bit more color? like pink tights or shoes so it matches the top of the Dress?

  7. It's so pretty and feminine ... I love the shoes. We'll indulge you anytime :-) I think pearls or a pearl pin to keep with the feminine look of the dress.

    Hope your day is awesome.

  8. I think it's totally stylish. My kid has a similar dress! And she's a fashion plate!

I do like that pink on you. It's good with your skin tone. Though I have a weak spot for loud bright colors, soft colors are kinder, in my experience!

  9. This is the kind of dress that doesn't need much to look good - it stands on its own just fine. I like you in pink, but you might want to tone down the red lippy (do a colour that compliments rather than fights the pink in the dress).

  10. I like this dress a lot! I would add a belt to where the pink and black intersect- this would create a nice cinched waist look. It would also be really cute with black knee high (or thigh high) boots for the cold days! Other than that- you nailed it!

  12. There's much to be said for a classic look! Plus, now is when you've really started broadening your clothing horizons, and you can now wear more of the things you've always wished you could wear more publicly. Makes perfect sense to me that you'd love the ordinary, everyday clothing as much as the fancy stuff. You've always wanted to just be you on an everyday basis.

  13. Great dress. I would throw on a belt to give it a little more visual interest.

  14. Totally cute! For a couple more options, you could try adding a belt with a bit of sparkle (crystal-accented buckle, or even sequins? It is the holidays, after all), or you could add a silky scarf tied at the neck and secured with a fancy brooch.

  15. Great ideas! I'll use them in the future.

And yes, Jen, you nailed it. My attraction to "ordinary" clothes stems from my deep-seated desire to simply be myself in regular life.

  16. This dress is classic, like you said, and I love the details on the top part. Some bracelets or a clutch might make good accessories.

  17. I would wear this dress, I see why you picked it up. It is simple and pretty, I would maybe add a colorful cardigan- if anything.

  18. Hi! I just stumbled upon your blog and I love it!! I know it's corny and maybe even spooky... but can we be friends?? I love your style and the fact that you put it out there for us! For this outfit: I love the dress - it's very cute - but a) you need accessories (pinkish pearls?, something silver and dangling?, a big vintage brooch?), b) to compliment your body figure and to avoid unwanted attention to your upper body, you can play with volume a little bit and add something that would take the focus away from your broad shoulders (a long cardi or faux fur, a big belt, a vest maybe?) and c) since the dress is kind of playfull and girly it should be combined with a natural make up instead of dramatic red lips. The combo pink and red if you ask me is kind of summery and oriental. I would go for smoky dark eyes and an innocent pink wet lipgloss.... Sorry if that was to lengthy, or too boring, or too rude to take from a stranger... but I'm greek and we're overly dramatic! It was written with the best of intentions!! P.S. - I worked for the court of first instance of my hometown for 3 years and you are by far the coolest lawyer I've ever met!!
