Vancouver

Shown below is one of the best photographs I ever took. I snapped it in Vancouver four years ago while hiking the edge of Stanley Park. I love a city with a park, beach and mountains. Vancouver is truly beautiful.

I was there to attend a blogger-meetup my BFF Suzanne organized. I'd met Suzanne once before when she visited NYC and leapt at the chance to go to Canada to meet several other bloggers I follow, like fashion-maven Sheila and endurance-athlete Jodi. It was a fun trip.

I haven't been to the west coast often (only once before this trip) so I was surprised to learn that Vancouver has more Asians (50%) than European-Canadians (48%). (The other 2% are original Canadian natives.) A large part of the city is devoted to Asian culture, food and shops. I hadn't anticipated that. On the east coast, Asians are a much smaller minority.

Anyway, back to the picture. The light, reflected off the Pacific Ocean, sparkles just right as an attractive woman'e silhouette is emphasized by backlight. I'm proud how well this image came out. Have you ever been to Vancouver?

  2. Nice b/w picture. I've never been to Vancouver, planning to ride to Toronto again this summer.

In 2006 I attended a bloggers convention in Amsterdam, Holland. I had a blast.

    1. Thanks. Vancouver is very different than Toronto. More scenic, less traffic. I like Toronto (and, like you will go there this year) but I *love* Vancouver (and its neighbor, Vancouver Island).

  3. I love Vancouver - we were just there a couple of weeks ago. I might be headed that way again in June (still counting my finances). Are you coming out again?

  5. Ahhh...memories : )

That was a fun time wasn't it? Hard to believe it was over four years ago now.

The next time you come up we can arrange a hike. It won't be opposite the ocean and there won't be any mountains but there will be a cute pug and that makes up for all of that. ; P

You remember the dreaded traffics issues here? LOL

    1. When I searched for the photo, I had no idea how long ago that trip had been so I checked when the picture was taken. 2015 -- hard to imagine it was so long ago.

  7. That picture is incredible, Ally. Very well done and I love all the twinkle lights (or reflections off the water). I have never been to Vancouver! Have heard so many great things but didn’t know about the plethora of Asian restaurants!

Hope you are having a great week, my friend! Xo

  9. Vancouver is lovely, but I prefer the Island, I'm just a small town girl I guess. I find the hustle and bustle of Vancouver a little overwhelming. My only destination over there is Ikea.

  10. Definitely a cool shot! I haven't been even very far north. There sure are a lot of cool people out that way. I bet the food is super awesome.

  11. I wonder who the woman is? Anyone you know?
We lived for three sublime years in Vancouver on False Creek in tiny poor student accomodation right next to Granville Island! We Aussies had no idea of the paradise we had landed in.
We would go back in a shot! But it's changed so much since the early 90s.
    Still beautiful I'm sure.
Would be so nice to be closer.
    Thanks for the memories.
