Sixties Sensation

This may be my favorite dress ever. I found it at a thrift-store in Portland this week.

It's an authentic vintage piece from the 1960's in real silk with a liner. It has an embroidered collar and cuffs. Best of all, it has ruffled sleeves! The sleeves slay me.

Oh, and the color... pink! That's so Ally.

The dress cost more than I usually spend but (1) I was on vacation and (2) I had to have it. Had to! I picked it up, put it back, picked it up a second time, put it back and then ran to grab it before leaving the store. Has that ever happened to you?

  1. This dress (and that color!) is so beautiful on you, Ally! I'm so glad you picked it up in the end. I've struggled like that, and I've left without making purchases and find myself always thinking wistfully about what I left behind. Good for you! You deserve to treat yourself (and it doesn't count when you're on vacation--same thing goes with calories). MUAH!

  2. I love the dress and it looks great on you. When you picked it up how sure were you that it would fit. It looks like a high quality dress from that era which likely did not include much, if any, lycra or other stretchy material so that it would either fit (and it does appear to fit nicely) or it would not fit.
In any event a great pick.

    1. No stretch at all. And, to be honest, it doesn't really fit -- but I've discovered an ingenious way to make too-small dresses fit me. I had to learn that out of necessity.

  3. This dress is totally you Ally! It is the perfect fit too. You always look amazing in pink. I don't know that I've ever turned around and gone back to get something, but I know that I have had serious regret over things I've left behind. Good for you treating yourself!! <3

  4. I love this dress on you, Ally! It's really fabulous - the style suits your body really well. I always ask myself, "Will I regret it if I don't?" - but I have dashed back to a store the next day hoping a piece will still be there (sometimes I'm lucky, sometimes not).

  5. LOVE this! I agree...this is one of my all time favourites on you. Not only because the dress is gorgeous but because it is authentic vintage. I can totally see how the dress transformed you and your character when you put it on. You look so relaxed and your poses are awesome! Bravo for taking the plunge and buying the damn thing. You need to do that more often.

You know me...I rarely leave stuff behind but on the odd occasion I do I'm like Sheila, I will sometimes go back if I'm still thinking about the item the next day.

    1. Your perception of the dress's effect on me is accurate. I can't remember being so happy wearing clothes. That, as you also note, explains my joy in experimenting with new poses. I agree that I need to indulge myself more often; I'm too stoic.

  7. Goes great with your complexion and Yes, I have done the retail Waffle buy before... usually I walk out with whatever it is at the last minute of indecision!

  9. The sleeves! Oh swoon!
The embroidery and silk are the icing on the cake.
Bravo for listening to your heart. It gets easier the more you do it!

  10. Yes Ally! Yes! I am so glad that you splurged because I will forever kick myself for not buying this vintage necklace (that cost way too much) I spotted at a flea market. I still look for it. You are rocking this dress and it is by far my most favourite on you. It hugs you in all the right spots and accentuates your skin tone. LOVE it. And your smile says it all.
Can I just say, I really wish that they would bring these types of styles back. I went to the mall yesterday and I held up an outfit and I'm like "Where is all the material?" It had holes cut out of it from every angle. I didn't know where I was supposed to hide my "girls". HA!

    1. I hope it okay that I pipe up here. I totally agree with this. All of the cut outs instead of good and new design- ergh ! Besides being difficult to wear, and sometimes tacky, it is derivative and getting old fast. You have to really shop to find beautiful clothes, and vintage and second hand is where I often find it..and as Ally did here.
This dress is beautiful, checks all of the boxes!
