More Adventure

My next motorcycle trip will combine two fun things -- camping and good food. On Friday I'm riding up to Portland, Maine; on the way there, I'm camping overnight in a state forest in Andover, Massachusetts (Harold Parker State Forest).

Portland was named the "Foodiest Small Town in America" by Bon Appétit magazine. It has also been featured in The New York Times as a superb food-destination. Portland is the biggest city in Maine and has the greatest density of restaurants of any city in the country. It's where foodies go to eat.  :-)

The only scary thing about the trip is the weather -- the forecast is thunderstorms. Riding a motorcycle and pitching a tent in the rain will be rough but I'm gonna go anyway. Sometimes adversity makes the most cherished memories. Wish me luck!

  3. Pick the higher ground for pitching your tent. Remember that water, like other things, tends to flow downhill.
    Have fun.

  5. That's the spirit! Ride on courageously, and as Pat said, find higher ground. (I'd ride through rough weather to get to a good foodie destination!)

  8. That is amazing! I give so much credit to you bikers who just hit the road and camp out like that. I don't think I could manage. Take lots of photos! Be safe out there!

  10. You will have a great time! Again I will refer back to my father. He is a die hard (avid) motorcyclist. Here in the midwest the weather can change on a dime. He carries on the bike a rain suit at all times. He even has the vest that heats up - wearing it under his coat. Sleep on an air mattress (should be cheap this time of year end of pool season). You are going to have a grand time!

  19. I hope you had nice weather for your trip and that you were able to pitch a text on dry land. I've been in this situation before and it's never fun but you have a good outlook as always :)

Also isn't Portland a darling city?? Loved it there when I went (much more so than Portland, OR which surprised me!).
