AllyCat On The Prowl

I'm happy with the outfit I wore today. And have two things to tell you about it.

First, I never would have bought this dress if Suzanne and Patti hadn't given me the courage to try it on in a store dressing-room. The dress doesn't stretch so buying it without a try would have been too risky. What a pleasant surprise in the dressing-room when I discovered it fits!

Second, I realize that lately I've been lazy with my makeup. Makeup is usually the last thing I do for a photoshoot and, by that time, I'm tired. I tend to slap on the minimum and get going. But my face deserves -- and needs -- better than that. To transform my masculine features into feminine ones takes work. I should do that work. I know I should. Hey, I'm talking to myself here...  :-)

Thoughts?

  2. I'm so happy you bought this, "Liza Minnelli" dress as you nicknamed it.

The extra effort on the makeup does pay off. I find the same for myself. I really don't like to go through the hassle of putting on makeup but it makes such a huge difference in the end.

Your joy of showing your authentic self shines through in the sequins on this dress.

    bisous

  3. I completely and utterly LOVE this dress on you, Ally! You are a lovely glamourpuss in it!

Make-up is part of my self-care. When I'm tired I don't bother. When I go to work, it's part of my work routine. But doing my make-up for ME, for a special occasion or just because I need a lift or to feel better about myself, is part of taking care of myself. It's like shaving my legs or plucking my eyebrows or getting a haircut.

I look at make-up as doing a painting. I'm putting on a base coat, accentuating and creating shadows, adding highlights and lowlights, and generally just bringing out the best in my features. I splurge and buy good quality make-up (mostly by MAC, because it's a Canadian company and is ethical, and also funky!) and I buy new brushes for applying it every few years. Brushes are what really elevate make-up from a chore to an art for me!

Anyway (/ramble), you look gorgeous, sweetheart. Hugs.

    1. That's a good attitude, Sheila. I believe if I could wear makeup in public, I'd be more serious and diligent about it. I need to remind myself that it's important even if I can't do that.

  4. It's Lovely and you did a smashing job with the make-up! I so suck at doing make-up, my Grandson does it better than I, once he becomes a well known Cosmetologist and after I put him thru Cosmetology School I told him he shall have to do my make-up and hair forever and ever... winks.

  7. That dress is so pretty!!!! Love the sparkles :) And makeup takes work and SO much practice... you'll get there (I say this though I very rarely wear any myself... though the other day, I made the effort to put on some mascara. Sometimes that's all that's needed!).

    XOXO

  8. Great job on makeup and I love that cocktail dress. It fits great and looks wonderful.
I do however understand and appreciate our shared feeling of being 'all dressed up with nowhere to go'.
I must confess that you have inspired me to do my makeup this morning. I have taken the day off from work and have a doctor's appointment this morning but I did get up and do my makeup and I do sit here in a wig, heels and a flower print dress. I do need to change to go to the doctor which is sad.
It is always a case of finding a way to shoehorn in a dressing session whenever we can.

    1. Yay! Good for you, Pat. I share your sadness at feeling stunted in our activities. I manage that by contenting myself with the most that I can do -- and hope things improve in the future. My wishes to you for the same.

Your make-up looks lovely ... I have to wear make up most of the time otherwise I scare little children! LOL!!!! I am OK at it but do it out of necessity not because I want to.

  16. I had to come back to see if my comment came through and it looks like it didn't - my apologies if this is a duplicate! I have to say that I adore this entire outfit top to bottom. The sequins and all. I love LOVE purple so the eye shadow is on point! I am never bold enough to wear pink on my lips. One day though I will! I think you look absolutely lovely! Glam but not over the top!

  20. I feel you about make up. I think if you don't really fid your strong point it gets harder. However the makeup you are wearing here is lovely! I don't know if you should do more with a makeup (I mean for casual situatuation, you know). And you do look feminine here, Ally! There is something in you tender soft face telling me you are a female, you don't have to work for it, you have it! It's just need a little more shine to highlight tops.
The dress is lovely! it's perfect fit. I think what you really should work under is trying out clothes more often before buying.

Have a fab weekend and don't worry about stupid numbers!
