Our seasons are so screwy this year. Winter was bad and never seemed to end. Despite a few nice warm days recently, it doesn't really feel like Spring yet. And last night it snowed! In New York, not Alaska. Snow in the middle of April -- that's rare.
I'm not a gardener and know little about plants. Three years ago, I planted two batches of flowers in my backyard. They grew nicely that year. The next year, I was startled to see them come back -- I wasn't aware they are the kind of plant that returns. I thought they were a one-shot deal.
This year, they popped up again. What a nice surprise. I'm sharing them with you here. If any of you are plant-literate, perhaps you can tell me what they are.
I hope these beauties survive the snow. Do you have plants? Are they blooming?
i was so pleased with the warm weather and i'm so sad it's gone! hopefully spring will come back to us soon!
ReplyDeleteSame weather pattern here. Weird!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Lilly of the Valley, but I am no expert.
And most of these tender young flowers do survive freak snowfall, at least from what I've seen over the years.
The white ones are hyacinth - they come in lots of different colours. The bottom ones are related to daffodils - maybe narcissus, which has smaller trumpets.
ReplyDeleteI love flowers! Can't grow 'em worth a damn, but I love to look at them.
I'm southern plant literate but I'm not sure what those particular ones are. Maybe lilies of some type? Wish I could be more help. They are pretty no matter what.
ReplyDeleteNo need to go as far as Alaska... we normally get snow in April. We don't like it, and we especially don't like admit it's normal, but it is! Some years at this time, I'm in shorts. Other years, I'm still in parkas. Oh, Canadian Prairies, you are a weird weird weather system!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it snowed here too, BOO! I have tulips and just kinda left them and I think they are okay. You can try covering them up at night until it gets warm again? I know a lot of people do.
ReplyDeleteSheila has identified the plants for you so I will just agree with her. Hyacinth are usually very sweetly fragrant and you can get them in lots of pink shades too.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow ones look like daffodils to me (maybe a dwarf version). The white are hyacinth...they smell wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt snowed here too yesterday. It sucks. Big time.
On the weekend it was short weather...then bam! winter coat weather.
bisous

Awwww, they look like droopy daffs! They are lovely!x
ReplyDeleteThose look like daffodils to me. I think they are a perennials? Which I think means they come every year, but bloom only once? Not sure.
ReplyDeleteSnow in April is no fun...But hopefully this means you won't have a drought come summer!
Everything in my yard has bloomed at least once already (the camellias have bloomed twice.) Your flowers are lovely.
ReplyDeleteI would be so annoyed if it snowed all over my flowers! We had such a dry winter...it was awful. It doesn't really snow here (except for once every 10 years in the mountains close to my home). But it may as well snow! It was so dry and cold that most of our plants and vegetation froze. I was pissed. My pink bougainvilleas and matching pink azaleas died :( We lost a few fruit trees too.
ReplyDeleteAs Amber mentioned...those second ones look like they're daffodils. The first ones look familiar. I may have had some like that.
beautiful flowers! And poor you and the weather. it reminds my last year when winter didn't wanna go so we marked date as 30-something, 40-something and even 50-something February :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice surprise that they came back. Hopefully they survive the snow! We got snow here, too last night, but I live in Minnesota so nothing weather-wise surprises me anymore!
ReplyDeleteThis weather is so wacky! I can't remember the last time it ever snowed so late into spring! How nice that your flowers came back again...I hope the cold temps didn't ruin them!

I feel so bad for my friends up north who've had to deal with this awful winter. Your flowers are pretty, but I have no idea what kind they are. I hope they last! :)
ReplyDeleteThe flowers look like daffodils to me but I know sh*t about flowers. We got snow the other day too and it was wicked cold, to boot. I'm so sick of this weather. I'm still wearing a winter jacket and carrying around gloves, just in case. I'm over it! Officially!
ReplyDeleteI've been witness to a snow storm in May. Not pretty my friend...especially when I had my winter coats at the dry cleaners.
ReplyDeleteI send them to be cleaned in July now just in case....
Lisa.
In my little part of the world we're begging on our knees for it to rain.
ReplyDeleteThe land is soooo dry -
