Monster Zucchini

I love fresh food.  And I'm lucky enough to have a friend with a garden.  She grows tasty veggies and when she has too many, she passes along some to me.

This week, I got two amazing treats.  The first is a monster zucchini. And I mean monster!  This sucker is 45 inches long -- almost four feet!  I doubt you believe me so I took a picture (below).  The zucchini dwarfs my fruit-bowl, pumpkin and New York Times.

Along with the monster veg came habanero peppers, which are very very hot.  Some of the hottest in the world.  One of these babies will make a pot of food almost unbearable.  Accustomed to heat, I usually use 1-2 for my meals.  My friend gave me a year's supply since you can't use more than one or two at a time.  Plus, their color and shape is pleasantly attractive.

Do you eat fresh veggies?  Where do you get them?

  2. Hokey smokes, that's a big zucchini! I love fresh fruits and veggies too. We have some pretty awesome farmers markets around here.

Ally, I got your card in the mail. Thank you!!! You are such a sweet friend, and I appreciate your kindness so much. I'm going to buy a new outfit this week and take pictures for my blog. Thank you for making me feel so special. *hugs*

  3. That's a long zucchini, but I've seen much larger, girthwise and weightwise. I buy my veggies at the local store, but most of them are from local farmers or farmers in my province (we are lucky to have a year-round growing season). Also due to being on the west coast, we get a lot out of season from California and Australia/New Zealand.

  4. I have just started a 30 day challenge where I don't eat processed food. Fruit and veges are the best!

  6. Fresh veges are fabulous - colourful and tasty and oh so good for us. I get mine from the local farm shop; it's right at the end of the road, would be rude not to. It's right at the end of the zuccini (courgette to me) season here now so make the most of your monster!

  7. My sister grows vegetables in our garden and has an allotment place for fruit. We go to the market in the area next to where I live for fresh things. I'm lucky in that even in the middle of a city, my mum has installed the Middle Eastern tradition of shopping at markets

  9. Yum-yum-yum! Zucchini is one of my favourite vegetables! I love to combine it with chicken or turkey breast pieces in a light herb and cream sauce for a quick, healthy weeknight meal. Muffins are another favourite, and when I make them, I almost always include some canned pineapple, which comes by way of a recipe from one of my mom's best friends (they've been friends since they were six years old), and a little pinch of cinnamon. Sounds a touch strange, but the three work together awesomely and really create a moist muffin.

  10. Mmm zukes! My mom made some last weekend. It's on the list of Not Acceptable vegetables for the DH, so I eat it only when I visit my family or out to eat.

  12. i love fresh veggies, too. my mom has the greenest thumb and can grow anything, so most comes from her. if i find myself near a farmer's market, i'll grab some there, too. otherwise, it's the grocery store.

    enjoy that zucchini!
