Weird Nature

I've lived in the same house for 28 years.  It has a big tree in the front yard which I adore.  Even though the tree's roots have upended the walkway, I'm not touching it.  I kinda like how the walkway is now uneven due to the tree's growth.

I noticed this year that, weirdly, there's a new tree growing out of my old tree.  No kidding.  I didn't know this was possible but there it is.  I find it kinda neat.

Do you love trees?

  1. Makes me wonder how old the tree might be. I love the idea of a tree having babies!

  2. When really big trees fall, are cut down or hit by lightning, they are often transformed into "nurse" trees or stumps over time, and can grow all kinds of mosses and even other trees off them. I would bet that this tree isn't actually sprouting another part of itself, but a seed blew in there and has sprouted. (Grew up in a rainforest area - I used to go on a lot of nature hikes!)

    1. I think you're right. There's a big hole in that spot with decayed leaves which turned into fertile soil over years. Thanks for the cool info!

  3. I bet Sheila's right, although it could just be a new branch. I love trees! Everything feels so bare if there are no trees - no shade, no patterns and texture, no place to hide, no homes for the elves.

  4. there are certain trees that scare me, monkey tail trees, unusual trees with growths, your sprouting tree less so, I can't explain it, some really make me shudder x x

  5. I have lived in my house for 27 years ... we unfortunately had to remove one of our trees and another one (a HUGE palm) was transplanted to a friend's garden ~ as it was leaning towards out house and when we removed it we found it was in a rock crater. That being said ... I LOVE trees ... we have two on our pavement and another in our front garden and replaced the one in the back garden with a new tree. I love driving down tree lined streets.

  6. I love your new tree, yep I've seen that before. I love trees and I'm very sad at the moment as my husband decided that the big old Mulberry tree in our front yard had to go .. now all I have is a few photos and some fond memories.

  8. I love trees.
This year I have given away several seedlings of mango, avocado, cashew apple, soursop and i still have a few more for adoption :) I have also planted at least 3 trees this year.
I am in a crusade right now because there is a huge dead tree that stands right next the weekend home and it needs to be cut down. I cannot bring myself to do it but sooner than later it will fall on the house :(

  9. I grew up in a house in the middle of the woods in a rural area. Sometimes, now, living in a town, in an urban region, I get so fricken homesick. I said to my room mate once, "I want to be outdoors again.' She responded with, "Then go outside, in the yard." I couldn't understand how someone who grew up in the same region I did could not see the difference. Manicured lawns with a few struggling trees here and there... that's not the 'outdoors'. Just goes to show that a person's bond with nature is an individual, personality sort of thing.
