Christmas Cards

I have a question for you guys...

More than almost anything else in life, I love picking out cute holiday cards, writing my friends' names on them, adding pretty stamps, and bringing them to the Post Office.  The process brings me great joy.  It reminds me of the wonderful people in my life.  And it lets me play with colorful paper.

My question is -- when is the earliest time we can send them?  Nobody wants to be the first person to send a card; that smacks of desperation.  But I don't want to wait until the last minute and have my cards delayed by the holiday mail-crunch.

When do you send your cards?

  1. I usually send mine a week or two into December. Usually around when I get out of school. I definitely try to avoid the mail crunch! I've sent my mom cards (from one town over) and they'll take upwards of three days to get to her during the holidays.

  2. Oooh! I LOVE picking out cute Christmas cards as well. I love variety too, so my sister and I always buy those packs with 15-20 cards in them and swap half.

I think the first week of December's a good time. This is when people start putting up holiday decorations and displaying all the cards they receive.

  5. I'm not a card sender but I've also never gotten one that seemed 'to early'. Mailing them out a week or two into December seems about right, it's nice to have a couple days to properly enjoy them before the holidays.

  6. I don't really do Christmas cards, but I'd say you could start sending them sometime next week and you'd be fine!

  7. I've sometimes expedited them to like the next day or 2 days, but generally if it's snail mail: one or two weeks : )

  8. I haven't done Christmas cards for like 10 years now. But I love that it brings you so much joy. That's really lovely. I say, send them out whenever you want. "So what? Who cares?" (That's my Joy Behar impersonation, or rather my Fred Armisen doing Joy Behar on SNL impersonation.)

    xoxo,

  11. That's not desperation. I love getting cards. If I weren't such an airhead, they would've been addressed this past weekend. But I left my address book home. Send them anytime!

  12. As soon as December hits Christmas cards are totally acceptable! I love sending and receiving cards. I think it's a dying tradition and that makes me so sad. We used to hang them around the doorway in our living room. It was so much fun to see if we could fill up the space.

  15. I wait until finals are over, usually the middle of the month. I always feel like crap because I get everyone's before I send mine out but, what can I say?

I haven't even started shopping yet. I suck.
