Traveling To The Moon

I realized recently what my blog is.  It is part autobiography and part art-project.  Saying that may help you understand my offerings.

I've always been a fervent fan of female beauty.  It attracts me with titanic force.  A glimpse of femininity is enough to race my heart and excite my imagination.

Before I began blogging, I never believed I'd be able to create female beauty myself.  I don't have curves in the right places on my body.  I'm at the tail-end of youth.  I'm large with Brobdingnagian feet.  But...

I have desire and enthusiasm.  Immense desire, stupendous enthusiasm.  At some point in life you learn that these combine to make rocket fuel for dreams.  With desire and enthusiasm you can reach the moon.

I started seeing an attractive dress-style about two years ago when it became fashionable.  The style has staying power and can still be found in top shops.  Time has allowed some examples of the style to trickle down to discount stores where I purchased this example.  While I wouldn't buy one for three or four figures at a tony shop, I gladly plunked down $16.95 in Marshall's last week.  Plus, it has my colors.

Comments invited and gratefully appreciated.

Are Men Stupid?

I saw a funny, but true, news story and it reminded me of something I often ponder -- How come you rarely hear of women doing the stupid stuff men do?

To keep you from thinking I'm exaggerating, I'll quote the news article verbatim:

"In what appears to be a party trick gone awry, an Australian man suffered severe burns after he put fireworks between his buttocks and set them off.  The New Zealand Herald reports that paramedics near Darwin, Australia were called to the scene on Saturday night, but the unidentified man had already taken himself to the hospital to be treated for injuries to his posterior and genital area.  'What must of seemed to be a great idea at the time has backfired, resulting in the male receiving quite severe and very painful burns to his cheeks, back and private bits,' Senior Sergeant Garry Smith said. Police believe alcohol could have been a factor in the firecracker-fueled accident."

In case you don't believe me, the story is here and here.

You never hear about a woman doing something like this, do you?  Why do you believe that is?  Are men genetically more prone to stupid behavior?

And The Winner Is...

I'm old school.  To pick a winner of the Henri Bendel prizes, I didn't use a computer algorithm or other digital device; I used the method we had for raffles back in the old days.  Everyone who commented got their name on a slip of paper (I printed out the comments and then cut them up); the names were put in a bowl; the bowl was tossed like a salad; and then, with eyes closed, I picked a winner.

Oh, and I hope you don't mind, but I also used the opportunity to dress up!

Here's what the raffle process looked like.

And the winner is Tanvi!!

Tanvi has a fun, informative blog here.  I've been following her for decades.  Going back to the Eighties, I think.  :)

Tanvi's blog is especially interesting because, beyond her attractive fashion-choices, she offers sound advice on healthy living, nutrition and exercise.  I always feel like I should be paying for her valuable content, but it's given to us free.  Tanvi lives somewhere in the big state of Texas.  Congrats, buddy!

LTR

Dear Blog,

I don't know why I didn't realize this before.  All the signs were there.  In fact, they're staring me in the face right now.  The truth is I didn't realize we are in a relationship.  A long-term, romantic relationship.

When I wake up in the morning, my first thought is, are you happy?  Throughout the day, I think about you constantly.  I care about how you are feeling.  Are you fed regularly?  Are you smiling?  Is everything okay?  Are our friends talking to you?

When I see something interesting or fun, I want to rush home and tell you.  I can't wait to share the excitement and details of my life with you.  You're my best friend, my companion, my confidante.

You're always willing to listen to me and you never complain.  When I get moody, you accept that and calm me down.  You open doors for me.  You add dimension to my life.  I've always wanted a partner like you, Bloggie, and now I have you.  You're my dreamboat!

Also, it was nice of you to let me raid your closet for that crisp white shirt I needed to complete my recent outfit.  It was the perfect soupcon of masculinity to season my roiling feminine pot.  You're the yin to my yang, honey.  The light to my shadow.  The water to my fire.

I'm a lucky gal.  Plus, you're attractive.  No wonder the other girls look at you.  I can tell some are envious.  Hand's off!  This blog's mine!

I love you, Bloggie dearest!

Henri Bendel Giveaway

When I see something fun, my first instinct is to share it with you.  Tonight, I discovered something fun.

I live walking distance from a shopping mall that is undergoing major renovation.  As part of that, they are bringing in new, upscale stores.  One of the new stores, which just opened, is Henri Bendel.

I wasn't familiar with Henri Bendel because its only New York location is in Manhattan.  The new one near my house is their first store on Long Island.

What a great place!  They sell fashion accessories, handbags and pretty items for the home.  All their products have noticeable style and flair, and their quality is manifest.

I learned that Henri Bendel opened their New York City store in 1895, over a century ago.  It was the first retailer to bring the designs of Coco Chanel here from Paris.  The store has heritage.

While there, I got a great idea.  What better way to share this with you than a giveaway!  I picked up a Lemon Verbena fragrance diffuser, a dark chocolate bar and the most adorable coffee mug.  The coffee mug is made from bone china and has gorgeous fashion outfits painted all around the side.  There are three pictures of it below to show you the different outfits.

To enter the giveaway for these items, just leave a comment.  (If you're shy and don't want to publicly comment, shoot me an e-mail at fhu@pipeline.com.)  I'll pick one at random on Friday.

Have you ever heard of Henri Bendel?

P.S., I don't do sponsored posts.  I wandered into this store on my own, propelled by curiosity, and liked what I saw.  I bought these items with my own money.

My Authentic Style

If I could be a girl, this is how I'd dress.

I found this polka-dotted cutie in a thrift-store for $6.99.  The dress reached out to me and opened its arms.  I couldn't help but embrace it.  To add color, I pulled out my red bag.

The reason I like this outfit so much is because it's me.  It's my style.  It's what I would wear if I was allowed to dress like a woman in public.  Can you see that?
