A wise and poignant reminder, dear Ally. Thank you. It reminds me of a classic headstone epitaph that I rather adore. A common version of it goes as follows...
"Reader beware as you pass by. As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, so you will be. Therefore prepare to follow me."
Some could interpret this as morose or even ominous. Yet to me, it is a beautiful, soulful urging to the living to make the most of the immeasurably wonderful gift of life while we're still blessed to experience it.
Sound point, neither morose or ominous, simply true -- and we benefit from hearing it. We should focus our lives with awareness of their temporal limit. People in past civilizations were (and were forced to) be more aware due to the prevalence of death; modern folk tend to hide death through cultural beliefs that perpetuate an illusion. That's not good.
